Are you kidding? I've known several people that adopted and it was a long arduous process "waiting" for their kid. People are standing in line for the young ones.
I'm glad that there is such a surplus of potential adoptive parents out there for every child that we can afford to be so discriminating.

True, I know people who have waited 2 years for white infants.
But if you are willing to take toddlers and up, or kids that aren't white, the wait isn't very long at all.
Sure, if you want that perfect Aryan child. White suburban Republangelicals seem to be particular about adopting blonde, blue-eyed kids. They'll wait years for one. The other chic, trendy choice is flying overseas to get a Chinese infant.
Hispanic? Say you'll take a Hispanic child and watch the young Mexican Catholic birth mothers who don't want to abort flock to you like seagulls to a dinner roll.
Black? "You're sure you only want one, and not, say, nine?"
Special needs? Older than two? Don't get me started.
Kids of all races up to about 6 go fast if they are "normal"...the ones they have problems with are the older ones and the ones with serious physical/mental issues.
"Lord Jesus, I'm already acting really holy by agreeing to adopt at all, so it should be OK to insist on a white child. It's not racist. Really, I'll even take a developmentally disabled Russian -- just no mud people. In Your name, Amen."
Don't believe me? go to the Texas Adoption Resource Exchange website. Click child search, check all races, under 6, any location. Virtually 100% of them under 6 that are available are special needs...many are really, really special needs...like require 24 hour nursing.

LOTS of other avenues for adoption besides that one.
They only list the kids that are hard to place on that site. Those aren't all the kids in the system available for adoption.
Surplus of kids or not---I don't care if potential adoptive parents are gay, straight, white or black. But puleeeze, let's just all agree not to adopt kids out to pedophiles or child abusers!

My stepmother was a foster child her entire life (in Pennsylvania). Ever foster home she was in, she was abused in just about every way possible.
My opinion of foster homes and the kiddie farms of this country are far lower and vile than my concern for couples adopting.
Quick story:
One of my coworkers had a tragic story. His brother committed suicide (coward) and left his wife and kids behind. Mom was/is a drug addict. So my coworker did the right thing and took the kids as his own. He doesnt have children, he and his wife decided long agao they werent going to have any either.
Anyway, theyre new parents to a 15 and 8 year old (both girls). Theyre doing great and have really jumped in with both feet...I am surprised, is my point.
ANYWAY...Theyre going for adoption of these children. You wouldnt frickin believe the they have to go through. The kids have been living with them for almost 2 years. Now that they want legal guardianship, there is a whole host of criteria that must be met.
The most ridiculous thing I have heard (so far) was that the State came in to interview and assess their home. They tested the water...the same water those kids have been using for almost 2 years, mind you....the hot water came out 1 degree too hot. They failed. The process starts allllll over again on that account. Back to getting bloodwork and personal interviews.
I get the idea behind it as the State represents the children, but this is overboard.
Then people wonder why such government en ies are reviled...
