All of these speculations are just that until they actually happen. But, if we're going to speculate, technically, the New Jersey Nets would be a viable destination for this to happen. Even if you dismiss the Jay-Z and the New York market aspects of signing with the Nets, the team has enough cap space and enough nice, young players for it to be attractive for two superstars to sign there.
Even if they pick up the options of Brook Lopez, Courtney Lee, Yi Jianlian, and Sean Williams, and Chris Douglas Roberts, their payroll for 2010-11 will still only be at right around $26.8 million. They'll have roughly $30 million, maybe a little more depending on the cap, to offer max (or very close to max) contracts to two free agents, while still maintaining a very good supporting cast around them. Assume they could lure both LeBron and Chris Bosh to sign with them, the Nets roster would look like the following:
Devin Harris / Keyon Dooling
Courtney Lee / Chris Douglas Roberts
LeBron James / Edwaudo Najera
Chris Bosh / Yi Jianlian
Brook Lopez / Sean Williams
Who knows if it will really happen, but technically, the Nets are financially set up to try to make it happen. And, if you do add the lure of playing in the New York market and for Jay-Z, I don't think you just dismiss it as something that cannot happen.
