Yes he can. The Lakers won the championship this year and needs to retain him to win again. To add on, the teams under the cap like Portland are looking for backup 4s like Odom.

If Utah matches the Millsap offer, which it seems they will, I find it really hard not to see Lamar as a Blazer. Which deeply pains me to think but it's hard not to see it. I still don't think he's a good fit for them but he's the best FA left and after whiffing multiple times now they have to sign someone and why not weaken the Lakers in the process. It'll be interesting to see what Portland offers though and if the Lakers do step up and match it.
If Odom leaves, LA becomes a favorite, not the favorite.
There's so much the Lakers can and are willing to spend in this economy to keep this team together. They already stretched themselves out to $9 mill / 3 years, and I doubt they're going to offer much more, considering how much they're in the hook for lux tax. And the reality is also that we haven't heard from Portland at all. They're on the Millsap sweepstakes right now. I'm sure if he would have been offered what he wants, $10 mill/ 4-5 year contract, he wouldn't be a free agent by now.
There just isn't a team willing to pay that THIS YEAR. So he can pull a SJax and wait it out.
It's those two threes in Game Five which make you long for him. He took those under medium duress and never hesistated an instant. He was going to shoot them both before he ever received the ball. It was near surreal. Where the did that come from? He never acted like that his entire NBA career. & if he can't get to that state again we're pissing the money away, frankly.
You guys fail to see the bench in the way Phil uses them Phil has always had role players that were specialists in his system:
Bulls: Randy Brown, Longley, Ron Harper, Hodges, Paxson, Dele heck even Rodman
Lakers: Salley, Medvedenko, Ron harper (again), Shaw, Madsen Rice, Richmond, Sasha, Josh Powell
All these guys were limited or aging when Phil had them but yet still he won 10 les with them playing limited but key roles
Problem is with SA, ORL and BOston tooling up .. (AGAIN just like last year I am not sold on the CAvs) for a war ...not sure that strategy would work ...but teh point is you cant look at the names our bench is buil to contribute a specialty: defense (Brown) or shooting (sasha and Ammo) size (Benga) speed (Farmar)
But all that said no Lamar no repeat ...
That is presumptive & drastic. It's 9 months till the next playoffs. Ample time to adjust if Odom bolts.
rumor is the mavs are trying to work a sign and trade for lamar. who would they be willing to give up to make the lakers interested? def not dampier, it would have to be one of the core guys. j kidd? marion? howard?

I'd take Howard and that little Barea fellow.
Don't forget about the Chinese Magic Johnson. Man, talk about a stacked bench.
Nowhere in that interview or in that article does it say they are trying for a sign and trade. All Cuban said was he contacted Lamar's agent in case things don't work out for him in LA.
Sun?That guy can't even do good in the D League for gods sake, he'll get cut before next year I'm pretty sure.
Well Spotted...
read the headline.
cuban: dallas in walks with LAKERS for odom. meaning they are talking to the lakers for trading for odom. if they were trying to straight up sign him, theres no need to talk to the lakers.
This is exactly what Laker fans refuse to admit.
Without Odom, the Lakers are completely dependent on Bynum to actually produce for 100 games.
Want me to repeat that? For Andrew Bynum to actually play and produce a double-double for 100 games. That will never happen this year.
Truth be told, Laker fans are terrified that Bynum is a bust, and the liklihood that he is a bust (after signing a huge contract) is actually higher than him being an all-star.
So he's like the Laker's version of Chuck Hayes?
I saw the interview on NBATV, which is what that speculation article is based on and all he said is that he's contacted Lamar's agent in case Lamar doesn't remain in LA. Lakers aren't giving Lamar to Dallas anyways, unless they're giving us Marion, which won't happen.

For all that is Holy, Base, it's July, even if Odum goes away we'll have until January and the trade deadline to get straightened out.
You don't win 4 rings in the decade by mashing the panic button everytime there's a hiccup.
no odom means only having
Kobe Bryant
Pau Gasol
Andrew Bynum
Ron Artest
as the main guys.
Yah Lakers are ed. LOL
With Odom already coming out and saying he would take less to stay in LA I doubt he goes anywhere. Its all media bs and fans of other teams other than the Lakers hyping it up. Just wishful thinking on their part....
Ouch. I never realized how terrible the bench was. Maybe even worse than the Medvendenko-Smush-Brian Cook years, that forced them to sign Malone and Payton (and then get obliterated by the Pistons).
Kupchak really hasn't managed his dollars very well. This is the guy who traded Caron Butler for Kwame Brown. If not for the Gasol-giveaway, Kobe would still be ing about playing for a crap team.
Without Odom, they'll have to play starters tons of minutes. By the end of the year it will be like bone on bone.
That >>>If<<< is kinda like the bear, Body: sometimes it eats ya (Kwame) and sometimes that old bear gets up all over ya (Fish comin' out of the TO and sprinting to right side arc whether it's in Orlando or...
