He's not coming back here to play. He played less than 19 mpg last year, he's not the defender he was, time has come to move on.

    Will we see..........

It won't be the spurs, so you should be happy. Wouldn't doubt it if he came back to S.A. for the league minimum or similiar. This news should be exciting for spurs fans who want bowen back

Funny.Did you watch him play last season at all or you just read this in the internets and assumed to be your opinion? Name the Spurs players who played better than Bowen last season, especially in the playoffs.

So Bowen is not a free agent? He is still under contract if it's a possibility he'll be traded. Therefore he hasn't been waived and he couldn't return unless he was traded, if they were going to waive him, surely it would have happened already (like Oberto).

A trade though, might be more likely he get's waived... more chance of a return. I think any trade with Bruce is going to be likely a salary dump than for whats left of his game.

The Bucks, meanwhile, continue to explore their trade options with Bruce Bowen, who must be paid $2 million and waived by Aug. 1, or his $4 million salary for next season will become fully guaranteed.

No deal involving Bowen was close as of late Wednesday, but Milwaukee will continue to make Bowen available until it has to release him to save the extra $2 million.

I'm likewise told that there have not been any trade discussions between the Bucks and Boston that would put Bowen back in Celtics green, even though the 38-year-old seemingly would appeal to the Celts to plug into the role -- perimeter defensive specialist who can drain 3s, guard certain power forwards and provide some championship know-how -- that they never filled last season after James Posey left.

Rumor: Bowen May End Up In Boston

by Jeff Clark on Jul 26, 2009 2:56 PM EDT

A source (preferring to remain unnamed) has indicated a serious flirtation between Bruce Bowen and the Boston Celtics. This may have something to do with the Marquis Daniels delay but it wouldn't be an either/or thing. Boston would like to get both of them.

The Bucks are trying to trade Bowen before his $4 million contract becomes fully guaranteed (only $2 million is locked in). Ultimately it may be in Boston's best interest to lure Bowen after he becomes a free agent although the Celtics run a slight risk that he's traded to another team before August 1st (and kept at his full salary).

Bruce's contract becomes guaranteed next Saturday. I would be quite surprised if he isn't waived. $4M ($8M with the luxury tax) is a lot of money for a 38 years old Bruce.

If he is waived, Spurs should be his first option. Now the question is: do Spurs want him back?

And wouldn't it be a coincidence if Bruce becomes a Celctic and the Spurs and Celtics end up meeting in the NBA finals.

If he doesn't become a Spur again, I would prefer he end up with an eastern power than with one of our rivals.

I hope Bruce comes back to San Antonio. The offseason would be complete if we bring him back.

I hope he retires, and sticks around here..

We are keeping our options open on 3 for 1/4 for 1 trades, but at the moment Bruce is unlikely to be signed by the Spurs if released.

Still when and if these trade possibilities happen I think the Spurs would like to have Bowen back. Bruce is one of those guys who knows how the system is run (unlike half our current roster) and if he comes back he won't care about PT it will be about winning. Bruce will help out every player on where he needs to be, what he needs to do and how he needs to do it, even if it costs him his 10 minutes per game. Why? Because Bruce is someone who will do what ever it takes to win, even by giving younger players tips on how to beat him inthe rotation.
Is this just speculation on your part or something that you have heard? If you have heard this, is it just a generic thing or a few specific deals?

    It sucks.
Bruce complements way better a Manu, RJ and Mason rotation than Finley.

If Spurs can't do a 3 for 1 trade, they should dump Finley and re-sign Bowen. Even if there isn't a team with a TE that likes him, Spurs should trade him + $3M in cash for a TE and re-sign Bruce. It woudl still be a cheaper option than keeping Finley and not re-signing Bruce.

Even if that's true, which it's not, a B - defender is still pretty good. You can't get A + players at every position, that's the entire reason for the salary cap, for more parity in the league. Otherwise, a small market team like SA would never have reached the heights that it has so far.

Also, one thing we should consider is what Bruce wants. Does he want to go to a new team at 38 years old, where he has to learn a new system, move his family (or at least himself), try to gel with a whole new set of teammates AND a new head coach? We'll see, but I highly doubt it

I'm still not sure Bowen will play anywhere if it's not in San Antonio. He might just retire and spend more time with his little boys.
