Hey, you can believe suitcases are backpacks. That doesn't make it so.
I have an Eagle Creek Switchback. Softsided suitcase with backpack straps. What was Mr. Gates carrying?

    Yay police power!!

Yelling at a cop should be a crime; why it isn't already a felony of some sort is beyond me!
Is hysterical hyperbole your only argument anymore? You use to do better.

Dissent about how an officer conducts himself simply cannot be tolerated in this dangerous world. The concern for cops being hurt by barbed words or sharp disagreement is really underappreciated.

As far as I'm concerned, there is no First Amendment right to free speech for those who choose to be critical of police officers.

To paraphrase: Arrest here. Arrest now.

What evidence do you have this arrest was based on race? You don't think a white person, acting like Gates did, has never been arrested?
show me where a handicapped old white man that needs a cane to walk was arrested in his own home for yelling at a cop.

    What my experience with racism?
your racism was with you long before your "episode".

People with no experience in law enforcement should really educate themselves before speaking to this issue. You only look stupid...except to others like yourself.
what experience? the kind where you make up before you arrest someone?

Hey buddy, you're the one talking about the officer teaching these academic goody-goody, white tower princes about the dangers of having an upset citizen yelling! I'm just suggesting that if the situation is as dangerous as you think the officer could have believed it to be, why not actually come up with a real crime to support arrests in those situations - something other than the trumped-up, insupportable charges that seem to frequently be the manifestations of police anger?

Well, I know of many elderly white men (some with canes even) that were arrested for disorderly conduct at their own house.

your racism was with you long before your "episode".
I don't have a racist bone in my body. Point to anything I've ever said that even remotely indicates I'm a racist.

    Right on cue.

You weren't there so, you have no idea of the totality of the cir stances. Every other officer there, and there was a black and a hispanic officer present, said the arrest was legitimate.

And, I'm glad you at least tempered your argument by saying the cop was angry as opposed to being racist.

Gates was acting inconsistent with what would have been expected from a home-owner approached by a police officer investigating a possible burglary in progress at their home. Gates belligerent behavior continued throughout the Sgt. Crowley's presence. He created a scene for no reason, breached the peace, and according to the officers on the scene, committed acts that cons uted disorderly conduct.

I may not have arrested him, they did...who are we to argue; particularly when we don't have all the facts?

you spoke, in detail, about a black man that yelled at you. you've been yelled at by people your whole life........but you only mention your "black experience".

    Cops back one another up.

And, I'm glad you at least tempered your argument by saying the cop was angry as opposed to being racist.
That's what we've all been saying. Your insistence to inject race into the argument with straw men and the like only distracted the focus.

Gates belligerent behavior continued throughout the Sgt. Crowley's presence. Except none of his action that have been recounted broke Massachusetts law. Only the imaginary ones you think the police continue to hide from the public for no reason.

I may not have arrested him, they did...who are we to argue; particularly when we don't have all the facts?
Were there any other facts to provide, they would have already been provided.

If the recording wasn't edited, it doesn't sound like there was enough time to have a chat with the witnesses while a suspected burglary was taking place -- so in this case, I will say probably not.

You can take it up with him. You suggested Gates was arrested because he was black. I think he was arrested because he was an asshole who became disorderly.

you spoke, in detail, about a black man that yelled at you. you've been yelled at by people your whole life........but you only mention your "black experience".
I spoke in detail about an experience about a black man that yelled at me, threatened me, and intimidated my passenger; simply because I was white. I was describing an act of racism I experienced.

I only mentioned that experience because it was in the context of a discussion about racism. I've been called whitey, honkie, and other names, by blacks in other settings, that didn't bother me -- even though it demonstrated their racism.

This incident happened in Inglewood, California, shortly after the Rodney King riots and about 5 blocks from where Reginald Denney had been dragged from his truck and nearly beaten nearly to death.

I believe I had reason to be concerned. But, since it's giving you so much mileage, go ahead and continue to make an ass of yourself.

you mean one that creates false information.
    No.

As I said, it appears the passage of time was recorded. If that tape wasn't edited, the whole episode happened very quickly without time to chat up the witnesses.
