I don't see how any Eagles fan could be upset with what should be an improvement to their team.

    Reason Vick has a chance
    By Buck Harvey

On Nov. 8, in Philadelphia, Michael Vick will have a chance to win over Eagles fans.

His suspension lifted by then, the convicted felon will have a chance to beat the Cowboys.

But the reason Vick has a chance at all in Philly is because of Andy Reid. This is both personal and professional.

Reid revealed the personal side Thursday night. He's a coach who rarely says much of anything to the media, yet at the press conference announcing the signing of Vick he didn't mind sharing his private world.

"At this phase in my life," he told the press, "I'm big on second chances."

He was referring to his sons, Garrett and Britt, who had gone through drug episodes and jail. Reid acknowledged Vick's troubles began about the same time as theirs, and that he had empathy.

"I've kind of lived that process," Reid said. "I've seen change."

But Reid will be more than a father figure. Just as Phil Jackson is more likely than others to find a place for Ron Artest, an established and respected coach such as Reid is with Vick.

Or: Would anyone trust Wade Phillips with this job?

Reid will have to make sure Donovan McNabb feels secure, and he will have to figure out what is left of someone who hasn't played in two seasons. He will have to adjust his system, as well as find a way to spread the football from Vick to DeSean Jackson to Brian Westbrook to the rookie, Jeremy Maclin.

Asked if the Wildcat formation might be an option, Reid smiled. "He can do some of that," he said of Vick.

No wonder Jerry Jones said he wished Vick had landed somewhere else.

There are no guarantees; Vick has been gone a long time. But he has a chance, partly because of a competent coach, and the experiment will be worth a watch.

    Especially in early November.

Because he generates revenue for the NFL. That's it.

Good move from a publicity standpoint (both good and bad) for the Eagles and the league. However, too soon to tell how he'll help or hurt the Eagles.

It's money well spent. If for no other reason than PETA protestors getting pelted with snowballs when/if they show up at Eagles games in Philly.

i think its a great signing, Mcnabb aint getting younger and could go down at any point, you can do alot worse than Vick as a backup.
