I think it has alot more to do with a political agenda, than racism.
I was in high school (at an NEISD school) when 9/11 happened. The teachers didn't do any teaching all day and they wouldn't even turn on the television to let us see updates. The kids are very bubble wrapped.

Shiiiittt... We woulda rioted in that ho' if we couldn't watch it on TV
I was at Churchill during 9/11... We watched that alllllll day
Thank goodness for the teachers that they let you all watching

Well they haven't sent home any notes or anything from my kids school...he's in the 2nd grade...hopefully he'll be able to watch it...
Here's what I got via e-mail:
Dear NEISD Parent/Guardian,
There has been quite a bit of media attention recently over President Obama’s address to school students on September 8, 2009. I am sending this message home to inform you about North East ISD’s position on this.
To avoid a disruption to the school day and loss of academic time, NEISD will provide the President's address for families to watch at home if they so choose. The district will tape the speech and provide a link through the district's Parent Portal.
The decision to record the speech and make it available on our Web site is for logistics and convenience purposes. I realize the highly-charged political environment is in the news, but quite frankly, many students will be at lunch, P.E. and other activities outside the classroom during the original broadcast.
Regardless of political party, adults should model respect for the office of the President of the United States.
Thank you for your understanding on this matter.
Sincerely,
Richard A. Middleton
Superintendent of Schools
Adults should model respect the way they are doing? Lame![]()
Model as a verb in that context was a whacked choice of wording.
As if the schools never modify the schedule for just about any activity they want or kids are never pulled out of PE for assemblies or speakers. I'll remember this in a couple of weeks when all these kids get out at noon on Friday.many students will be at lunch, P.E. and other activities outside the classroom during the original broadcast
I wonder- what if your kid happens to be in social studies at that time. CAN the teacher put it on for her class or are they forbid?
I know, what a weenie. If you make a decision then own it, don't make up stupid excuses to try to hide that you are caving in to pressure. I'll be absolutely "modeling" my respect for Dr. Middleton!
Can a mod move this thread to "Future White Pussies of America" forum. Thank.
