My friend has absolutely no reservations about Chris and intends to do business with him.
I hope it works out great for both parties.

I do not know Chris other than second hand information and only want my friend to cautious of Chris as I think a person ought to be in regard to any potential business partner.

I worry about my friend because he acts impulsively, especially when it comes to his music ventures. My friend is very eager to succeed, and while I appreciate his passion, I think my friend sometimes rushes too much.

I understand that in life you have to take risks, but I think it is only right to acknowledge something is a risk before deciding to do it. I feel it is important to do your homework and make informed decisions, especially in business when a lack of discretion can literally cost you.

I just don't want to see my friend be taken advantage of.

This past weekend when my husband and I shared our concerns with our friends, he asked us to not be an anchor, because he does not want to be slowed down.

So I am going to keep my mouth shut and hope and pray that my instincts mean nothing more than that I am ( over?) protective when it comes to my friends.

I'm a little late on this, but I know Chris personally and know some of his history. I'm taking the audio engineering(recording) classes and music business classes with him right now.

He's a grammy nominated producer, mostly in tejano/latin music, most recently this past month with Jay Perez for the Latin Grammy awards. He also owns a latin label called Tejas records. He is very knowledgeable, and he is very good at what he does. One of his most recent projects is a band called Flesh Electric. The 2 songs on their Myspace were done by Chris and one of his students helped out. Check it out.

I am su ious of this Chris guy because he told my friend that in order to get signed he needed to first make a ten song cd because no one accepts demos anymore.

That is contrary to what l learned when I researched press packets on the Internet and so what Chris is saying is a red flag to me.

Am I wrong?

I am trying to find out if and how much this producer is wanting to charge my friend to make this ten song CD. Hopefully I will today.

My husband talked to our friend last, so all I know is what our friend told my husband.

Oh, and in response to this particular post, Chris says he reccomends a 10 song cd, because he takes an old school approach in thinking that a full-length(at least 10 songs) would be better off than a 5 or 6 song demo. Also, if an artist already has 10 songs, they could release it under a label as a full-length instead of having to record more songs. I know some bands get by with doing less than 10 songs, but Chris sees the "bigger picture" I guess you could say.

Anyways, I don't know if your friend's band is still looking around, but if they are, Chris can be pretty expensive, but I can guarantee you if they decide to go with him, it will be a great, great move. Chris has many connections in the music industry with labels(Universal,Glassnote Records), radio, etc., and many other people. Working with him could open many doors for the band.
