Oh, and about the whole "everyone played like crap" argument. That's the whole deal right there. We need players who can step it up when the go-to guys are struggling. That's what legit starters on elite teams do. What's the point in Fin/Bonner making a few open 3 point shots when the Tim/Tony/Manu are on fire? That just helps us increase the margin in games we are already winning. What about picking up the slack when the big dogs are struggling? But that's when Fin and Bonner start bricking their shots, play loose defense and don't box out. We need people who at least have a chance of being productive when options 1, 2 and 3 aren't working.
Look, the reason Rondo and Perkins are starters is that they defend well and keep the C's in the game when their big 3 are struggling. I have seen even Derek Fisher (the worst starter on the Lakers) hustling and playing his ass off when Kobe or Gasol struggle.
Problem with Fin and Bonner is that when their shots dont connect, the rest of their game sucks as well. They don't hustle, don't rebound, dont defend, and pretty soon we are facing a large deficit. No blame on them since they lack the tools to do some of these things, but Pop needs to wake up and realize this pretty soon.

Most of these are correct. If Bonner and Finley do not deserve their minutes, then reduce those minutes. However, if you know options 1,2 and 3 are not working and then you have both Finley and Bonner on the court at the same time, the opposing coach also knows that options 1,2 and 3 are not working, they will check on Bonner and Finley. All of us know that Bonner and Finley can hit open 3s and know their limitations. Why curse them for it? Unless it is a lack of effort, then they do not deserve to be called out for. Bonner knows hustling, I am sure Finley does but he is not even one-tenth as athletic as he was in the past. It is up to Pop to adjust those minutes as the games go by. We can only hope this suck ass situation does not last for too long. It is easy for us to talk about those players but Pop has the toughest job to do.
Then don't reply to me. There is not even a reasoning behind your dumb post.
It is a little unfair to blame the Spurs misfortunes on Bonner and Finley. Bonner in the starting lineup to me makes sense because if your going to pair Bonners lack of interior defense or rim defense with anyone, who better then Tim? He also spreads the floor for Tim, although McDyess could do that too, just not to the extent Bonner can. I don't like Bonner starting, I'm actually all for trading his expiring deal for someone that could really contribute. But, it makes sense why he is starting.
Finley, I'm assuming he gives the starting backcourt a little more size then starting Mason? I'm not sure why Roger Mason Jr lost his spot. It also seems to make more sense playing Finley as the backup SF as there really is nobody in that backup SF besides Bogans, Ginobili plays a bit of backup SF too with Hill at the Point and Roger at the two. Before the season began I thought the starting lineup woud be Tony, Mason, Jefferson, Duncan, McDyess. I'm a little surprised, and although I'm criticizing the Spurs, my main point in this thread is that there is a difference between an actual opinion as to why things aren't going too great and just cursing the Spurs after every loss and then jumping back on them after a win (or even after a double double from Blair).
True fans get mad when theyre team loses. Wouldnt you agree. And spurstalk is a place to vent. We still rock out for the spurs. I myself have lost a lot of money betting on em. I know we will do better but unfortunately not with what weve been starting.I dont hate matt or fin but they should be only playing spot minutes and I really cant convince myself that we can go all the way with both starting. Not saying I have any other suggestions but I can guarantee if both start all year we will look bad pretty often.
^ this
it's bull when the so called "true" fans critizize the fans that . These pussies just wanna make themselves beleive they are better fans.
It reminds me of when jesus said "throw the first stone" when ppl wanted to stone the . Are we not all spursfans???![]()
I have no problems with expressing disappointment at a loss, I just can't stand seeing threads coming up after each loss about "get Bonner the F out of our team", "RJ... the worst trade of the offseason" and "Spurs suck balls". All of which were started by Spurs fans on the forums either during, or just after, our second loss of the season. That is not venting, that is an extreme overreaction to an under-performance one week into the season.
it's a long season, and even longer when you give a crap about what the trolls are saying. 99% of us here realize the way the spurs start a season is way different from the way they finish a season. I rarely post in this forum before the all-star break because most of the stuff you'll see here is pure crap.
Yup and not a stone was thrown because there was no one blameless. I dig it hater.
what's worse than a fan ing about his team??
a fan ing about the ing
Or a fan ing about the ing about the ing? Shall we keep it going or do you have anything valid to contribute?
Hey, mosdef17, why don't you create the official list of TRUE Spurs fans, so the rest of us will know who we should be aspiring to.
I know I won't make it, cause I get disappointed when they lose
You wouldn't make it because nobody wants to aspire to having an unrequited boner.
This is awesome...but really, Bonner and Fin? lol
we're talking basketball here, and in the NBA unrequited boners are reserved for mavs fans
I agree with mosdef, if there's one thing I don't like about the Spurs its their fans.
Good er . . . point, so to speak.
So what happens if the Spurs play well against the Blazers and win tonight? The Jazz loss will be forgotten and the proclamations of 2010 champs will be all over the place. A lot of you so-called fans need to stop acting like whiny little pussies and man up. How can you even call yourself a Spurs fan and complain about losing 4 games into the season when you know Popovich uses the season to fine-tune the roster until the RRT?
Probably because you're one of them?
To all the "true" fans who don't care what happens until April, why don't you stop reading ST until April... and let the "fake" fans debate on what could be done to improve the team (except waiting for a miracle to happen in April, this holy time when the team suddenly gels out of the blue and Pop suddenly recovers his sense).
True fans don't criticize others because they follow the team differently. The only thing that determines a true fan is loyalty. Just because you critcize the team doesn't mean you are not still loyal and if you are still loyal, you are a true fan.
you mean even though you watch the game' you're not a true fan if you don't likw the outcome' is a dumbass thought
Just as people are allowed to overreact and have a meltdown, people are allowed to say that those people are ignorant. Stop the damn double standards. The OP is right. People freak the out. We have a lot of brand new players. You can't just expect them to gel automatically. We ALWAYS start the season out ty and pick it up midway through the season. Everyone just needs to calm the down. They won't, but it's their heart attack, not mine.
