It's going to be academic once Google Phone comes on line.

Probably. I signed up for one, but I still don't quite trust the way The Google is assimilating all my data.

My home security system and fire alarm are wired into my land line phone and monitored. I like it for security and safety reasons.

Thats also a really good reason to have one. Some of the newer alarms have wireless connectivity with a backup battery in them in the event crooks are smart (lol) enough to try and cut your power but some of the older alarm systems rely on a landline.
