Looking down the cliff
Another pic of me at the South Rim
Looking down the cliff
Looking SE from the South Rim
Shot looking southwest from the South Rim
Cool shot of the layer of hardened lava on top of the sedimentary rock at the South Rim
A bunch of cactus growing right on the edge and down the South Rim.
I thought you were black.
Nice pictures. Looks like it was a gorgeous visit for you.
Nice pick looking SW from on top of the aforementioned volcanic rock
I love these views looking down the windows cut into the rock up there
On the way back to camp, we passed this cool formation. Notice the ubiquitous bright-green lichens you see all over the Chisos Mountains in Big Bend.
I liked this pic. The formation at the top-left looks like a lion and the cleared-out section of rocks resembles a heart.
Pretty weird seeing pine trees in Texas
good pics, in spite of what some posters say...
I've never been there. Thinking about taking my son, before he gets older (teens) and blows me off in favor of his friends...
if I went, I'd probably pack up the m/c and go on two wheels.
I liked the color in this tree. Too bad the lighting wasn't good
One more pic from the Laguna Meadows Trail on the way back to camp
I didn't get any pics of it, but the Chisos Basin campground is the coolest public campground I have ever stayed at; even more impressive than the public campgrounds I have stayed in Yosemite or Sequoia.
This is supposed to be the best time of year to visit Big Bend. Even on a pretty sunny day the whole trail was very cool, with a nice breeze. It's all above 5600 feet (the South Rim is something like 7600 feet or so I think), so it's reasonably cool without being so high that you feel the al ude all that much (though you can tell a difference from sea level).
Great pictures. I love West Texas.
Is this your first visit to BB? Damn, Texas is gorgeous.
Yeah man, plus the area between Presidio and Big Bend is just as nice as the park itself.
Beautiful pics, thanks for sharing.
I have a close group of friends that would go out to a friends families 25,000 acre ranch just north of Marathon every year from the time we were in high school on into our 30's/40's and then started doing it again this year...awesome fun. Catch and ride the ranch horses, hike, hunt, etc.
A cool pic at sunrise from when we got there
A cool shot of sunrise at the Chisos Basin
