January.
Christmas is the . I'm a big sucker for christmas. I was going to start setting up my tree and tomorrow even though theres no chance anyone other than me will see it. It always just takes me back to the halcyon days of my youth when you get off from school and get to uber-play your video games for 19 hours a day...till your eyes bleed....surviving on tamales and soft drinks and junk food. Nostalgia rules.
Hhhhhhnnnnaturally if you go out to the mall or something it is a beating, but who ing cares. Either you want to buy gifts or you don't. It's not like western culture just started commercializing christmas during our lifetimes. It's been like that since before most of us on spurstalk were born.
So my favorite part of christmas is setting up and decorating the tree.
Random acts of kindness. What is your favorite thing about the holidays?
We have a "giving tree" at work. Names of children are on it with their ages, name, sex, and a preferred gift. I picked the tag of a 9 yr old boy named Jose that wanted a bike. Yesterday I bought a cool looking 21 speed dirt style bike with 20" wheels, and placed it at the tree.
Think he will like it?
Oh yea, my birthday.![]()
I have a system that helps me deal with all the hoopla early so that I can focus on the holidays for what they really mean to me. The main thing I do is Christmas shop early. I was done by December 1 except for 1 item that came in on Friday. My gifts are wrapped, my cards are sent, and now I can take the time and effort to focus on faith and family.
I also like the smells of Christmas- a fresh noble fir tree; cookies baking; cinnamon...
Christmas...the best time of the year by far for me. From the day after Thanksgiving to Christmas Day is fantastic. I love listening to Q 101.9 for all the Christmas music.
For me it's just fantastic. Nothing compares to it.
You know kids these days..he'll probably say "Yeah it's okay."
Having two weeks off and hanging around with the family that I rarely see.
Thinking off new and innovative ways to off myself.
celebrating Jesus' birth.
A question I'm searching for an answer to this year. Normally, I enjoy the lights and the smells and time with family and the way more people seem to go out of their way to be kind and generous.
This year . . . it just feels like one never-ending rush to something. Rush to shop, rush to spend too much money, rush to this family and that family and better make sure everyone gets equal time . . . I don't even know if we'll put up a tree this year. SFIE hates the fuss, I won't do it until the house is clean (and boy is it not right now) and we'll soon be to the point of December where it feels pretty useless to bother with it since it will be up for such a short time.
Food, snow, family, some vacation, snowboarding
So, you're the one.
My favorite thin about the holidays is going on my normal cruise vacation. One week over the holidays I love it, you can forget about, work, money, cell phones, drama, and NBA basketball for a week and on top of it all you make new friends. Great way to spend the holidays
I'm totally feeling the same way. Rush rush rush. We probably won't put our tree up either due to our cats. They just love to climb in it and knock the ornaments off...which usually end up in pieces on the floor. It's just not worth the hassle to me this year.
so i'm the one what? i don't have a problem with my faith whatsoever. if you do, well that's fine.
If you step back and remember the real reason for Christmas, it's much easier to step away from all the rush, rush, rush and the commercialism. You don't need to spend tons of money for gifts that your relatives either won't like or won't appreciate.
Spend the time with family, or helping those truly less fortunate - and make some lasting memories.
Remember: Jesus is the reason for the season!
Meaning you're the one who actually celebrates the birth of your savior on the recognized holiday. There's so few of you out there.
if you just read the name of the "recognized holiday", you'll see that "Christ" is an integral part of Christmas.
there are so few of us out there because people want to commercialize this day, which is actually sickening.
i have no problems with gifts, trees, lights and decorations, food, family - none of that. i just have a problem with people lose focus on the true meaning of Christmas.
The only good thing about the Holidays is the after-Christmas sales.
Actually, Christ should be an integral part of Christmas. Sadly, these days, that seems to be less and less the case. I'm not even Christian but the fact that Christmas has become more about sales and materialism than celebration of the birth of Christ sickens me as well. Just another reason why I'm glad when the holiday season is over.
Other than the fact that you have faith and I don't, we're essentially on the same page.
I have a weakness for Christmas. Always have. No religious ties for me, and I don't really care about getting presents, but I love all the rest of it. The decorations, the music, shopping for people, wrapping, egg nog... I'm a sucker.
thento you.
That is such a kind gesture. I think he will love it! And it's always possible that your one little act of generosity change his life![]()
