We pretend that there has been a divergence in our politics, that the two duopolist parties have become more genized in ideology and more extreme, yet the truth is that both now fight over the same turf. We take the cacophony of elections as evidence of real disagreement, but we are mistaken. This is synthetic, yet another creation of American mass culture. It makes for a great show, but when it's over, all's the same.
