I see what you're saying, but I don't think your analogy to school is completely accurate. Some players are paid larger sums of money, and are expected to perform at a higher level.
I think Kace is right here... this is not a matter of money.
The intrinsic value of a lay-up or a rebound doesn't change based on the salary of the scorer or the rebounder.

I have a different opinion. I think he means that different players have different expectations with regards to their role. For example, we thought DeJuan Blair would just be the 3rd big in the rotation but he had started quite some games and impressed, playing well against good teams like the Celtics and the Thunder. Richard Jefferson, on the other hand, is expected to be 4th option and has not lived up to those "expectations" to be an all-around player.

i get the point and i agree ! It would be unfair and stupid to judge Blair or Hill season based on Duncan or Parker standards.
But ''the spurs' best players by rank'' (as it is stated in the le of this thread) is supposed to be the ranking of the best spurs players without having anything to do with pre-season expectations or salary.

    Therefore:
    1. Duncan (exeeded expectations)
    2. Parker (below expectations... so far)
    3. Hill / Ginobili (exceeded expectations for the 1st one, below expectations for the second one)
    5. Blair (exceeded expectations)
    6. Jefferson (no comment)
    7. McDyess (below but about to meet expectations)
    8. Bonner (met expectations)
    9. Bogans (met expectations)
    10. Ratliff (met expectations)

    i like this format too.

    Exceeded Expectations
    1. Tim Duncan - i thought this would be his worst year due to age and his injury, but he's better than ever
    2. DeJuan Blair - didnt think he would be as good as he is now
    3. George Hill - i had hope for him, but i didnt think he would step up this much

    Met Expectations
    4. Matt Bonner - he was in my exceeded list until his injury
    5. Keith Bogans - could have been exceeded but he has sucked lately
    6. Theo Ratliff - spot minutes, block shots - what i expected.
    7. Michael Finley - meh, at least his minutes went down
    8. Manu - pretty much lost a step like i expected
Former player - Haislip - he was overrated, he sucked, he left
    9. Ian - i think people overrate him on here, but what i saw is what i thought i would get
    10. Malik - has improved, just pop doesnt wanna play him

    Below Expectations
    11. Antonio McDyess - getting there to meet expectations
    12. TP - was hoping he would be our leader this year but his injury really ruined him, but lately he's looking better (hopefully)
    13. Mason - was hoping he would be much better this year, but he's at the point where has no positive affect on the court
    14. RJ - 14 million for a player that shows up barely and is suppose to be the 4th option.

    OK, so what ?

If Tim and Blair have the same "B" overall game (let's say 14 pts, 48 %FG, 7 rbds, decent defense etc etc...) give them a "B". Everyone knows that for Tim, as a "A" superstar, it would mean an average game and for Blair, a "C" young prospect, an very encouraging one. anyway, just my opinion.

The problem is that a "D" game for Duncan is better than an "A" game by other bigs. So if you really want to grade on an even playing field, 90% of games would just be like this:

    Duncan - A
    Parker - C
    Ginobili - C
    Everyone Else - F

not false but still..... the best one could be on an even playing field but with more grades (like a numerical grading between 0 and 20/20 or 10/10 by example) but i don't think that's very usual in US like it is in Europe.

anyway, i don't think there's any kind of "grading" on ST that wouldn't bring hot discussions and endless polemics about their accuracy
i still remember last time you tried (last year).

    8. Parker
    9. Ginobili
    10. Jefferson

I refuse to rank Hairston, Haislip and Mahinmi as their time on the court has not been measurable.

Hey, hey, hey. Gotta rank my Spurs players here. Check this out. It is rap time yo.

Failing to meet expectations is Mr Eva Longoria Tony Parker.
I got my guy Michael Finley meeting expectations as a sucker.

The best playa, Timmy Duncan, I am gonna give him the first distinction.
Matt Bonner did great but he ain't no 80s Larry Bird imitation.

Dice is like a gamble, I can only do with him 1 out of 6 times.
Manu Ginobili, can't score consistently, but he is averaging a career high of dimes.

Keith Bogans, what were the expectations, Bruce Bowen who the ?
DeJuan Blair, no ACLs my ass, that was CIA Pop for you, he trains in a prison cell.

Jefferson, playing like the limp we all know he is, after Finley and I got settled.
Roger Mason, threw him under the bus cause he sucked, after we rap battled.

I will refuse to rank Ian, Theo, Hairston, cause they don't get the minutes, and sucked donkey balls.
How can I forget my favorite player, George Hill, he is the only mother er who remembered all my play calls.

So, Spurs fans, tell me how nice my ass taste.
