y'all need to be careful, if you don't quit complaining about the halftime show they will probably start a reality TV show where the winner performs at the Super Bowl, then you will begin regaling your kids/grandkids of the day when The Who ROCKED Dolphin stadium.
they should condense the state of the union into 15 minutes and give that at the halftime show. that would be truly american...

Someone mentioned NIN last night. I'd be cool w/ that. , I'd take a number of 90's alt rock bands over last night's performance. I suppose that doesn't fit into the "we need somebody current" category, but that's the decade I'm stuck in.
MUSE would also rock a majority of faces off.

I didn't think The Who were that bad...
But I do think the Halftime Show would be better as a reflection of the current times. It would be cool if you could look back on past HT performances and be able to know exactly what year it was because the band(s) in the act were popular at that time.
The NFL has sort of trapped itself in the "One Huge Band" philosophy, but there are only so many acts that have such a broad appeal. Why not let four or five of today's most relevant new bands take a swing at doing a song a piece? Wouldn't 5 minutes of OK Go make for good entertainment?
Trouble is, people are now used to the HT act being one of the biggest bands of the last 50 years. So relatively unheard-of bands would be greeted with confusion rather than curiosity. We've trained the audience to expect the expected. The NFL needs viewers to stay tuned in during halftime, so they need bands they can easily promote.
Also, just because it's modern doesn't mean it has to be sexed up. The after-effects of the Janet/Justin incident may have been too harsh, but the initial reaction was perfectly fair. There are 100 million people watching the Super Bowl, it's not the time for provocative MTV bull . An act can be diverse, fresh, and entertaining without s and dry humping.

George Strait, Reba McEntire, Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood would all be great choices, and you know they wouldnt do anything stupid to ruin it for everybody.
Yeah, but for some their performance alone would ruin it for them. I don't think The Who did anything stupid but they still seemed to have ruined it for quite a few.
Reuniting Slash and Axl for halftime would be the most watched and best halftime of all time.
Don't you think that they should start balancing it out with some female acts too??
They should just forget the concert approach... People's taste in music is too different, people are always gonna be unhappy with the choice.
Make it sports related. Have a fan contest, but not a lame one, like having 2 scouted half-re s tryin to do the most average of things like shoot a free throw or throw a ball through a crater 10 yards away and making it look like the hardest thing on earth.... something badass
Have a 100 or 40 yard dash compe ion between the fastest guys in the NFL not in the game. Have a long throw contest between all the rookie QBs...
