I don't think there was any misunderstanding. He was mad because of free agent signings (or lack there of), hiring of a new GM and coach without consulting him.
But dude has no heart. He had already turned into a soft jumpshooter by this time. He dogged it the entire season until he was traded (16PPG/41% shooting suddenly shot up to 28 PPG/47%), suspected of tipping off his opponents etc.
Granted, the GM at the time was far worse than VC, trading him for a pack of Wrigley's Juicy Fruit. And personally, I think it's re ed to boo him like 5 years after the fact. But I find it hilarious he seems to gets more motivation playing in Toronto than he does actually trying win.
