Sheed never wanted the responsibility of being consistently great. That's a different kind of pressure. That's bringing it every month, every week, every game, every quarter. That's working in the gym long after everyone else has left. That's dealing with a steady stream of opponents saying to themselves before every game, "I'm playing Sheed tonight, I gotta give him my best." That's dealing with fans who expect you to come through instead of being pleasantly surprised when you do.

Difference between Rasheed Wallace and Tim Duncan.

I actually think that the biggest waste of a basketball player on the planet was one Michael Suckmywokandi. I argued long and hard against him being a Spur and I'm glad that he didn't become one. A true never was who got paid like he was ALL-NBA.

#2 ain't Rasheed. Try...Eddy Curry. $11 Million this season alone, of dead money sitting on the NYK bench.

Sheed lacked the most important thing that makes one a transcendent player - the mind. Talent wise, he is up there. He could have been a Tim Duncan with a jump shot.....what a .

Actually, that's not true. Even the writer of the original article acknowledged that his b-ball IQ is off the charts. Sheed's problem is what I like to call Tin Man syndrome: no heart.

Tim Duncan is arguably the best PF of all time, but If 'Sheed didn't Cadillac away his career, a la Derrick Coleman, he would have left Tim in the dust. Everyone acknowleges that Tim is on the downside, yet even in his "slide" years, his 17.9 ppg is almost 3.5 ppg higher than 'Sheed's CAREER mark. What a complete waste of talent.

Does anyone wonder if playing alongside Duncan would have made a difference with Sheed?

I mean, let's think about it for a minute. You have to eat meals, go to practice, and try to play as a teammate with Paul Pierce (the greatest player in the world), Rashon Rondo (who seems to be as y as any player in the NBA), and Gevin Karnett (the douchiest nozzle of them all). How would you react? I don't blame Sheed for taking plays off and doing whatever, he's probably sick of playing with people who have a bigger mouth than he does.

Put him in the blocks next to Duncan and I bet he would play like a star. Big Ben & Larry kept Sheed (mostly) in line in Detroit... is there any doubt that Pop and Duncan wouldn't have a similar influence?

That said, I'm glad we got Dice. Much less of a chance to pick up a T in the playoffs when the game's on the line... or to double down in the corner to leave a shooter wide open for 3.

Rasheed was broken/lazy LONG before he got to Boston.

I was against getting Sheed from the beginning and love how much Simmons torches him in this article. But I think it would have been interesting to see how Pop/Duncan reacted to this kind of play/behavior. I definitely don't think Pop would pussy out like Doc has all year, Sheed would have either had to get his act together or ride the bench I would think.

It's a bit naïve to say he should put pride or dignity or the opinions of fans above $19 million, as if any of us would.

I love Tim Duncan's professional at ude, but the fact is that well over 90% of name NBA players act like bratty children, and compared with that a lazy fatass adult who likes to complain about everything comes across quite well.

Whatever. When your production tails off to where you are no longer effective at either end of the court, combined that with poor physical condition - it adds up to a player who has simply mailed it in and doing nothing but collecting a check.

Of course, this isn't all Sheed's fault. No one held a gun to the Celtics and forced them to sign Sheed. In fact, they courted Sheed as though he were LeBron James. Showing up on his doorstep at midnight, with a contingent of Celtics people. Sheed is simply taking the money being offered by clubs that erroneously misjudged just how far his production had declined. If they didn't know before, now they do.

Sheed reacts with abject horror to every call against him. He flips out. He hops around in disbelief. He makes you think, "My God, why would they wrong him like this? What do they have against him? IT'S A CONSPIRACY!" Then you see the replay and … yup, he fouled him.
