A huge reason is because the player guarding him the most (over half his open threes he was guarded by Dice or Duncan)
These players guarding him are just naturally wired to staying closer to the basket.
The solution is very simple. Just keep Jefferson or Bonner on him 24/7. Just have them stand right next to him at all times. That's it.
