The problem with bringing back Bonner is the same issue when Finley was brought back. Pop can not resist playing them when they should be the end of the rotation vets.
I think if Splitter comes over Bonner really has to become a spot player with Duncan, Splitter, Blair and McDyess ahead of him in the rotation. I doubt Pop has the same type of love for Bonner that he did for Finley.

I'm not in favor of Bonner coming back, to be clear, but I really don't think the Spurs will let him go..

There are very few stretch bigs that I like..

    Goodbye Mason!!!!!!

I think if Bonner doesn't stay here as a regular season option, he could end up in Toronto.

Bonner would just be our next finley, taking up room away from other players to develope.

The Bonner and Mason era has offcially ended! Yeah!!!!!!!!
Mason is gone, most likely, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Bonner back, though his role will probably be lessened if Splitter comes over.

I think I bring back Bonner for the vet min if thats all it takes. As a fifth big I think he'd be fine.

Mason and Bogans need to kindly GTFO however.
Bonner will get the Friends (of Pop) with benefits deal like Finley got when his deal was up.

Pop will probably foolishly bring back Bogans in some sort of horribly misguided attempt at finding another Bowen after we got thrashed by Richardson in the Phoenix series.

Between Blair, Hill, Splitter and whoever the 1st round draft pick is there's already going to be plenty of young players to be developing. Not saying it has to be Bonner, but the Spurs need more veterans. Half the roster this year consisted of d-leaguers and guys who were half a notch above d-league. That needs to change.

He played pretty good defense on the road against Phoenix and help spark some runs by the Spurs. He doesn't have Bruce's lateral quickness, but he's tough/physical and doesn't give up on any plays. Hopefully he develops the jumper more in the offseason.

Bonner hit some shots, but he also missed several rotations. He simply gets too much playing time for his over all limited skill. We need to get back to being a defense first team. Bonner is not part of a defensive equation.

Oh Jesus, not this. Bonner proceeds to completely and utterly suck through eight playoff games, plays mediocre ball in the last two, and suddenly he gets his due? That's like a mass-murder showing remorse at sentencing. No. He does not get "props" or his "due." He gets a polite wave goodbye instead of a swift kick in the ass out the door.

That guy has clearly pissed off the basketball Gods somehow, and any team he's on will suffer in the playoffs.

Matt Bonner isn't worth bringing back if he only plays well in home games...our days of automatic homecourt advantage are long gone

Bonner will probably be back unless he can get a bigger contract elsewhere. Regardless, I'd be surprised if he doesn't get a raise: he's an adjusted plus/minus monster. As the third big for the Spurs (after Tim and McDyess but before Blair), he's not ideal. As the 5th big (after Blair who won't be a rookie next year and Splitter) he is AWESOME.

But did he actually touch the floor? It's when he checks in that the winds change. I'm telling you it's uncanny. I've never seen anything like it.

As weak as the Spurs 3 point shooting is, you can bet Bonner will be back.

Although it's unfair, I will always associate the sight of Bonner with the Spurs' slippage the last couple of years. He can never be Horry (even if he could hit big shots) because he is utterly ineffective under the hoop. People forget that Horry could rebound, the Achilles heel of big Matt's game.

You have to cut ties with Bogans/Mason/Bonner, it will open up big minutes to develop Malik and Temple.

Bonner actually showed up the last two games, so I'll give him major props. With that said, I can't stand 3-point shooting bigs unless they're freaks of nature like Robert Horry who can deliver on the defensive end too. Mason and Bogans are easily the worst failures on this team since Van Exel and Udrih (and at least Nick had an excuse with his knees).
Correction: Bonner showed up offensively the last two games. He is and always will be a liability defensively, and if the Spurs ever want to get back to contention that's the area in which they need to excel.

I counted two critical mistakes in the second half of this game...one, missing a clear rotation to pick up Richardson who slammed it home and two, losing sight of Dudley cutting to the rim and watching him finish the and-1 from the foul he drew on Hill.

Things like that have me PRAYING we don't see Bonner back in a Spurs uni. I would love to see the Spurs go out and draft another player who can fill his role (Hayward, Babbitt, Brackins).

    As for Mason...he gone!

How f'd up was bringing back Finley? That put us in a hole that we never really climbed out of.

So yeah, all this celebratory talk, hey kids, check yourselves. This is the Spurs we're talking about.

On Bogans...I know he took alot of flack for seemingly being overrated defensively, but I thought he was one of they only really physical, gritty players the Spurs had on their roster. If the Spurs could get a guy like Raja Bell it'd be an upgrade, but I wouldn't mind seeing Keith back in a Spurs uni.
