Doesn't make sense for the Hornets, that's the only problem with that.

Why? I'd like to see what Johnson could do playing big minutes regularly. I think he'd quickly become one of the best big man defenders in the league (very good on the pick'n'roll, shot blocker, very fast changing ends, versatile defending m2m) + good rebounder + freakishly efficient garbage man offensively. In fact, I think we'll see all that next season.
And in a running team with an elite PG who's willing to take risks, he'd look even better.
I think he is a poor mans TT and that is not a good thing. Certainly not an MLE level player imo. Those are the kinds of contracts you give to "great athletes" that get you into trouble.
WTF? This is a horrible trade for the Spurs.
If the Hornets want to rebuild it does make sense for them.
I was gonna say "would the Spurs really WANT that trade?'
Mike Bibby is the Matt Bonner of point guards.
I'd prefer Thomas - even though Amir is a safer bet. Johnson isn't an athlete only, he's a quality defender who improved quite a bit this last season. He consistently makes his teams better, in Toronto and Detroit. He's still very foul prone, and that's been holding him back (and the lack of regular minutes + a consistent role is a big reason why he still struggles with fouls), but even if he plateaus as a 25mpg backup off the bench... a MLE contract for a 23 years old backup big who plays quality defense at both positions, rebounds the ball and plays within his role offensively is far from a killer.
I'm pretty sure he'll sign a contract close to the MLE this off-season.
Splitter can play defense, but he looks like Duncan when blocking shots. No lift.
No trade for Parker actually makes sense. People just wanna trade him for the sake of trading. Luckily RC is the GM and not these morons.
Parker for Marvin Williams who has never lived up to his potential and probably never will and a washed up Bibby, thats funny
Joe Johnson(sign-and-trade), Josh Smith, Mike Bibby for Parker, Jefferson, Splitter and the 20th pick.
Hill/Bibby
Manu/De Colo/Temple
Joe Johnson/Raja Bell(FA)
Josh Smith/Blair/Mahinmi
Duncan/McDyess
This is a joke right?![]()
Joe Johnson? Just what we need.. another guy disappearing in the playoffs.
If this isn't a joke then DAMN
i just throw some trade idea like everyone, but you want to tell me you wouldn't do this?!?! it will be dumb not to do this
this is a dream trade, you saw what lineup it will give us, Joe Johnson is superstar, meybe not the best franchise player but he still great player, Josh Smith should have been allstar this year and he exactly what we need long side Duncan.
I'd rather have Horford and Crawford then either Johnson or Smith. Parker for Horford and Crawford fills two huge holes and then the spurs can use #20 on a point guard.
I'd do Horford and Bibby too... for Parker. Bibby still has several decent years left, which should coincide with Duncan's career.
Horford is like Splitter, no need for both, Bibby is not much anymore, i rather keep Parker!
Ahh, of course. Almost forgot Splitter. Silly me. We can pencil him in for Horford's 14/10/1 a game no problem. , I'm just gonna pencil him in for 25/15/3 and the next 5 les. That's right, quintuple-peat baby!
Thanks for correcting the error of my ways, Kobyz
Horford is the better player right now, but Splitter is the type of player Horford is and could give the same things, so if you have Splitter there is no need to give up Parker for Horford.
But you made it sound like Splitter was a sure thing in your above post. Now he "could" give the same things? Don't tell me I have to erase all this now, I just pencilled him in for 14/10/1

With a Parker for Horford / Bibby swap the spurs roster would look like
PG Bibby/Hill
SG Manu/Temple, Bogans or Gee?
SF RJ/Hairston/#20 pick?
PF Horford/Blair/FA sign or Bonner
C Duncan/Dice/maybe Mahinmi?
Pretty good lineup, Horford allows the spurs to use Dice off the bench with Blair which does wonders for the 2nd team defense. If Bonner is retained, he is the 5th big that sees court time sporadically at best. Horford's young, mobile, athletic, and very talented. Plus he is big enough to be a good post defender and shotblocker. This helps Tim Duncan not have work so hard.
Bibby gives the spurs a very experienced PG and more of a distributor in the starting lineup which should mesh well with Jefferson. He can also shoot the 3 @ 40% which is more than enough.
If the spurs want another shot at a le in the Duncan era they need to reload now, and this would be a possible solution IMO. There really isn't time to wait for Splitter to adjust to the nba game (could take years) and besides I fully expect Splitter to play out his contract in Europe before making a decision on the nba.
