RC should technically have the higher job (he's got an executive position in SSE while Pop has an executive position with the Spurs), but yeah, Pop's in charge.

Portland's going to have to offer a ton of money to grab a premier GM like OKC's or the Spurs'.

They pretty much nuked their reputation which is a huge gamble to take in the sports industry since its a much smaller world than you think.

Pritchard got a really raw deal, IMO. I wonder what's really going on behind the scenes in Portland.
Portland behaved with no class, but neither has Pritch -- and he humiliated them just as publicly when it's all said and done. They deserve each other.

What did Pritchard do? I haven't followed this at all, so curious.

    On the R.C. Buford rumor
    by Timothy Varner

Plenty of discussion to come regarding James Anderson and Ryan Richards, but we would be remiss not to address reports that R.C. Buford is a target in Paul Allen’s search to replace Kevin Pritchard.

We should start with what this isn’t.

Isnt R.C the one who built this roster?
He and Pop were instrumental in rejecting Luis Scola while extending Mike Finley and Bonner.
Eric_Park please give us an insiders view of how the signing after-party went.

Was it Presti or Pritchard or both who found Tony Parker and GNob?

The Pritchard love in here is comical. He drafted well and stockpiled picks, but his team was perennially lottery bound...he should have drafted well. It's hard to be the clippers. For his positives, it's widely known that he was very difficult to deal with. Due to his arrogance he developed a poor relationship with Paul Allen. This firing had been coming for awhile, and the only reason anyone is surprised is because of the way Portland did it. It was unprecedented. His at ude not only strained his relationship with the Blazers, it also turned off many other GM's from ever wanting to deal with him. This is the same guy who sent out a letter to every team in the NBA threatening legal action if they attempted to sign free agent Darius Miles.

RC is a of a scout and has an incredible business mind. Not to mention, hes one of the most professional and well-respected GM's in the League. He and Popovich have built, and repeatedly rebuilt this team without the luxury of lottery picks.

Be it GM's, coaches, or player trades, some of the spoiled fans here are less interested in winning and professional consistency, and more concerned with change for the sake of change. Duncan's retirement will be an eye-opening experience for those of you interested in change.

First, how is it within the rules to interview our GM when he's under contract, without permission from our team?

It's a lateral move. Given that alone, not sure why RC would do it and even more reason for that to be against rules. I could see a promotion, anyone should be able to interview for that. But a lateral move?

If it's within the rules to do it if there is more money involved, these GMs should start going out there for higher bidders EVERY year they are a hot comodity and forcing pay increases one way or another.

And why stop there, why not do this with coaches? The Knicks have tons of money to waste all the time. NJ has a billionare owner willing to spend. Mark Cuban does too. Why don't they knock on Pat Riley's door? Of Pop's door? Jerry Sloan's?

Doubt the league would let this happen without the team allowing it. And I see no reason why the Spurs would allow RC talk to them. They like their GM.

Some dumbasses will report anything. I mean, come on, it's your job, how hard can it be to make sure what you write is even legal?

Nets ownership will try to move quickly on a replacement, and sources say potential targets will include Oklahoma City GM Sam Presti, New Orleans GM Jeff Bower and San Antonio Spurs GM R.C. Buford. Nets assistant GM Bobby Marks, who has drawn interest in the Portland Trail Blazers’ search, is a strong candidate, too.
what's with all this attempted poaching?

Bravo!!! You hit the nail right on the head. Some people just can't appreciate the last 13 years of excellence this team and fanbase has had. They'll be in for a rude awakening in three short years, but then they'll say, "remember when we had Duncan, Parker, Ginobili, Bruce and Pop? I sure do miss those days."

what's with all this attempted poaching?
Wouldn't compensation be involved if they wanted to pry a GM already under contract? Would they have to relinquish money, draft picks or players to actually make those moves? I'd rather go after Danny Ferry or some other assistant GM since that wouldn't be as costly.

He would never take that job. He doesn't want to go there just to get fired a few seasons later. Not worth the risk.

Probably because he will be interviewing for the Nets job!
