So they can sign-and-trade him to a contract north of the MLE if they wish and can offer 10.5% raises. For a guy like Mason, this is as good as full bird rights.

175% of Mason's salary from last season is $6,615,000. The Spurs can sign and trade him for any amount up to that, and nobody is going to pay him that much anyway. Therefore, the early Bird rights will suffice.

I agree with coyotes_geek, hopefully he wants to go to the Clippers, Heat, or another team with cap space that will let us sign-and-trade him there, giving (hopefully) a big enough TE to get someone we otherwise couldn't have.
