It's battle royal for roster spots time for Hairston, Gist, Jerrells, Temple, and Gee. It's an important summer for all of them, but I think it's especially do or die time for Gist. This might be the summer the Spurs bring him into the fold or make him a bonafide NBA free agent.
If Gist doesn't impress quite enough to make the team but still shows flashes, the Spurs could always ask him if he wants to play for the Toros. He still has all of his D-League eligibility.

If Gist hasn't shown that he's developed a consistent shot from the arc then he's history. The same goes for every other hopeful in this roster that's not playing center or PF.

where did gist play 09-10? he shot 49% from the 3pt line in the italian league from 08-09. if he continued improving his shooting or put on some weight, he may get a nice roster spot.

nvm i found the answer. he played in the russian league and his states weren't impressive at all with 31% from 3pt. here's the link.

    Interesting roster.

Blair gets a chance to show some leadership and play as "the man".

Temple, Hairston, Gee, Jerrells all get an opportunity to show their wares. Hairson and Temple would obviously be looking to impress in particular.

And we get another look at James Gist. The Spurs obviously like him. Hope he plays well.

man, i hope he performs. he has the length we require at that spot. however, the spurs top performer will probably be malik hairston, fueling the hairston fascination on st.

if i was a gambling man, i would bet my house on hairston performing well.

I really wish Anderson and/or Richards were playing. Not playing in summer league will make it more difficult to blossom in training camp and preseason.

Outside of those two omissions, I like the roster. I'm glad it's focused around the players who the Spurs need to take a look at. We should have a much better idea of where those players stand after the SL.

Neal is a somewhat interesting prospect. Wilkerson is an odd player to have on the team -- he was the other bigman on Marshall (Hassan Whiteside had the headlines).

This is likely James Gist's last shot. I'd expect him to get inked to a contract for training camp no matter how he performs and then let the cards fall as they may. It's time.

Richards NEEDS to be on the summer league team. If he doesn't get on it it'll be a crying shame. he was the only reason I was lookin forward to summer league sadly...

The only player who could create a surprise on this roster is Gary Neal. He is having a very good career in Europe as a scorer. He is the name that strikes me out on this list.

For the rest, it will be interesting to look at players that still are in Spurs pipeline:
    - Gist has struggled this year. Will he be back at the level he showed during the 2008 SL.
    - Will Blair hit some jump shots?
    - What will show Jerrells, Gee, Hairston and Temple who are battling for roster spots.

    Yeah Neal is interesting.

I imagine the Big 12 players could be allocation players for the Toros.

Hopefully Eric Dawson can play more than three quarters of basketball. His last injury was just sad.

Gary Neal could be very interesting indeed. I definitely forsee him challenging for a spot on the team.

Do we think there will be a Temple vs. Neal battle going? Honestly, if they both looked good I wouldn't mind keeping them both. But what would Neal want to come over?

Check out his profile at DX: http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Gary-Neal-544/

    Could get interesting...
