Chemistry is great, but first things first.

First, you need talent to succeed in the NBA, then layer chemistry over that.

The Spurs need to preserve/improve their overall talent level.

    Without Parker, they're cooked.

My only issue with your analysis is that it puts too many eggs in 1 basket. So, that if Manu got hurt, not unusual with his style of reckless abandon, that means that what Hill is that player that does what Manu does? Nope. The thing with the TP haters is that since he doesn't distribute as well, well...that makes the others more prone to standing around. But, realize that his best skill is to lay waste to opposing defenders with his speed to the rim. IF he's being effective doing that, and it's what Pop wants first out of him, and they're winning...then what's all the hubbub about bub?

No one is suggesting that Tony does not provide value , the thing is if you compare our best 4 players ( Tim, Manu, Tony and Hill) vs Bostons ( KG, Pierce, Allen and Rando) . The celts are better served with all 4 being in the court at the same time , therefor their talents are maximized, In our case one of our backcourt players Tony, Manu or Hill is better served coming of the bench, it's no wonder Manu has been coming of the bench all these years, while Tony or Hill had to in the recent playoffs. I think we are better off if one of our best 4 was a forward. That way we wont have to finish ball games with a 3 guard line-up and give up size.

Your theory is not supported by logic, foundation or fact. There is no analysis.

Isn't this all situationally speaking? Everyone knows that Shrek & Donkey had to contribute because Boston's 4 wasn't. It's the same way with the Spurs. In crunch time, The Spurs big 4 is playing. Well, Big 3 plus 1 guy who wants to play big.

    cool thread.

So now it might seem best to go ahead and start Manu and Parker.

But get Manu's ass to the bench quickly and bring Hill in at the 8 minute mark.

When Parker needs a breather, Hill can play point and the Spurs could bring in Anderson at the 2.

    Win Win for everyone.

For the first three quarters the Spurs can run all sorts of combos. I'd prefer that most of Manu's minutes in the first three quarters are spent playing alongside Blair, Hill, RJ, and Tiago. Parker can spend most of his minutes playing alongside Duncan, McDyess, Anderson, etc.

Come 4th quarter, though, it's Parker, Hill, Manu, Duncan, and Splitter (or McDyess). That's how the Spurs will close out.

These comments from Splitter from a news article for some reason gives you the feeling that the Spurs future direction with their young recruits ( Splitter, Anderson,Hill and Blair) involves mainly Manu and Tim as the leaders and does not factor in Tony as part of the Spurs future. I'm not sure if it's just the vibe that I get or if there really is more to it.

“I think this is good for me and the Spurs,” he said. “The Spurs need a big man and I like the Spurs.”

Splitter said he is looking forward to learning from Duncan and Ginobili.

“Manu and I have talked and he’s told me he will help me,” Splitter said. “We know a lot of the same people.”

So now that the Spurs have Splitter in the fold, how much better will they be next season?

Splitter, along with draft pick James Anderson, will infuse the team with much-needed youth and talent at key positions. But the
Spurs still need to find a tough perimeter defender who can hit a 3-pointer consistently.

I like Tony Parker he's a great player but I must admit the Spurs as a team play better without TP.
Look at how we turned the season round to get to the 50 win mark, but beating some of the best last season and that was without TP.
With TP I couldn't see that happening.
The team play increases 10 fold and it nearly looks like a different team out there.

If TP stays there is no point signing RJ unless they can develop a game together and some trust, RJ needs to earn it but TP aint give him an inch.

Our young players wont grow if Tony is running things on the floor, with Manu they will all develop into great players cos he makes everyone round him better.

And quite honestly, I don't know that Splitter would even be wearing the silver-n-black had it not been for Manu being on the team, whom it appears he has great respect for.

    One anecdote deserves another.

so he talks about enjoying playing with Tim and Manu and that's supposed to prove your point.

    OK, let's play this game:

"I realize where you have the opportunity to be - on a team that is international and a team that won les with such good players, Manu (Ginobili) and Tim Duncan and Tony Parker," Splitter told reporters

    are you reassured ?

anyway, Tiago is from south america and has played in europe/euroleague. there's no doubt that he should now feel closer to manu than to tony.
Same about Tim who plays the same position and whose succes and fundamentally sounded game have made him a model for a lot of big men all over the world.

How did Manu have a hand in it? Manu said he didn't even know who Splitter was except for the things he heard from Scola. Like Manu has said before he stays out it for who they decide to bring and not bring.

Add a Tmac who has been humbled, and still hungry. With Pop as his coach, Tmac would thrive as a Spur imho.
