Hopefully Toney doesn't come out wearing one boxing glove.

    And on another note ...

Sometimes it pays to look for Art 'One Glove' Jimmerson pics.

They'd all have to train their asses off in JJ and wrestling to do it is the point.. This is where the Boxing vs MMA debate gets lost. Brock's base coming into the sport is the dominant base in MMA. Dominanat amateur wrestlers through the divisions basically rule the sport.
They add to their game from that wrestling base.. There are MMA guys like Anderson Silva that are so good at striking they could beat up some of the middle of the row boxers in straight boxing. Super-elite boxers will wreck MMA stars in straight boxing but if they want to come to MMA they have to train hard in eveything else or they are dead..
Yes, this is correct. I am taking the bold assumption that the fighter would work on his sprawling and take down defense in the lead up to the fight. For the most part they would just need a great takedown defense. Take someone like Chuck Liddell. He never had much of a ground game and was very successful. Even when he lost, it wasn't because he got taken down, he lost on his feet. And assuming the boxer is fighting a mostly stand up fighter? Game over.

The striking currently on display in a lot of world class MMA matches is sop ric. Case in point; Brock's eyes closed, head down, arms straight out backpedaling against Carwin.

Regardless of outcome, I just dig the premise and set-up of the whole thing. This isn't a freakshow or just another fight, it's old-school; where it all started.
Toney hasn't been in any kind of great shape since he took steroids for the Ruiz fight. He really peaked as a boxer in the early 90s for crying out loud. In his mid 40s he's suddently fighting an MMA match for the first time. He's probably to going to come in extremely overweight. This is a complete freak show.

Chuck was a wrestler most of his early life, it's why he has such great takedown defense. He was a Div I wrestler in college, if my memory serves me correctly.

Toney was basically harassing the crap out of Dana to give him a contract and calling him out in the media for dismissing the idea.. Dana has even said he goes back and forth every day as to whether or not he should have signed him.. It is a freak show.. Toney is not likely to fight in the UFC past this one..

Well, I guess I was wrong, there's no way a boxer could ever develop solid takedown defense. Also, that eyes closed hands straight out Mummy/Boris Karloff, backpedaling, standup strategy by Brock was obviously not primitive standup then, thanks.

lmao at the best HW in the world, looking like Rahman in Rahman v. Lewis II in standup.

Wrestling is the best base/roots a MMA fighter can have. It's where Chuck and almost all champions began. I have followed MMA for a very long time and few kickboxers/boxers become long term champions. All these fighters like Mirko, Schilt, Hunt, Manhoef (world class k-1 guys) have had trouble getting over the top in MMA. You have to have a grappling background. There are a few guys who are an exception, because they are just that good at what they do...

I want to see James Toney fight Chael Sonnen just to hear the hype up interviews.

Damnit! 3 great UFC events in a row and I can't afford it! It's alright cause 119 and 120 are looking boring. But 116, 117, and 118 could end up being a GREAT run of events
