We know Hamilton is on the decline, but I do think last season was more injury related than decline related. I think he'd be rejuvenated going to a team that (with him) would have a shot to make the playoffs and has arguably the best PG in the league. His game should age relatively well, so he should have a couple decent seasons left.

Sure, his contract is bordering on terrible, but I think the Hornets are desperate enough to keep Paul happy to bite. This, I've got to think, in conjunction with the Ariza trade, would do just that. Plus, it would give them a realistic shot at the playoffs, which they otherwise wouldn't have.

Good trade for Houston. Lee is a nice replacement for losing Ariza talent wise and it saves them a ton of money.

Good trade for the Hornets. Paul will maximize what you can get from Ariza and they shed some money short term. Paul + Ariza will be pesky on defense.

Don't like the trade for Indy. They lost a good fit which happens to be a big man and they don't have a lot of good depth there. They so desperately wanted a PG that they took on some extra money and only got a marginal player.

NJ got a decent trade, but what does that say about Favors? At least he is a good player, veteran and expiring.

Oh yeah, WTF Spurs? If Ariza was available why not get in on this ish? Throw Blair or Hill in and try to get it done.

Murphy was gone by the trade deadline or the off season anyway. He wasn't in the long term plans.

I'd heard the Pacers plan to play small and fast next season, even before this trade.

This makes a lot of sense for the Pacers. They get a young, inexpensive, quality PG to add to Granger, Hibbert, George and Stephenson.

If I were them and George flashes star potential in the next two years, which many think he possesses, then I'd trade Granger for a PF and/or multiple quality pieces and build around George, Collison, Hibbert and Stephenson.

Granger is already 27, by the time this team is ready to do anything, he'll probably be around 30 and he's already had myriad injuries.

As for Favors, it says what the Nets and nearly everyone has said since him being drafted: he has an extremely high upside, but isn't ready to start or play a major role yet. Now, for at least the majority of his rookie season, he doesn't have to.

Why would the Spurs trade a young, inexpensive player, with a higher upside than Ariza, for Ariza (who's a mediocre shooter), when they've already re-signed Jefferson?

    1) The Nets suck ass and are going no where. It does nothing to bring in a vet like Murphy. Why not let Favors (who will have no pressure bc they were the worst team in the league) play and gain experience?

    2) I said trade Blair OR Hill. Not both. It would be giving up one young and inexpensive player. I don't think their upside is something so great you can't trade them. I still think Ariza, as a system player, has about the same upside and he has proven himself on a le team. Ariza may be a medicore shooter, but where he does well is spotting up for 3, which the Spurs desperately need. He would also be our best perimeter defender and be the only one on the team that is above average in that department.

He would be the closest thing to Bruce the Spurs could get. Yes, they re-signed RJ, but he sucks quite badly for the Spurs. Spurs still have a huge hole at SF. If they could get Ariza, you should do it.

Not in my opinion. Blair is at best our 4th big. In the playoffs he will hardly play. Ariza would be our starter and a damn near perfect fit in our system.

If Ariza is what it takes to make Paul happy then he's stupid now saying that just because they wrote that in print doesn't mean anything to me. Paul is gone and they just traded away his backup for Ariza, smh

i see what you're getting at, i truly do, however i think both blair and gh3 shouldn't be compromised just because everyone wants to clone bowen.

ariza could possibly work here in SA but both blair and gh3 are already in the system and do damn well in it too.

trust me, i want a bowen-esque player too. , i want bowen back!

They still needed a stopgap at PF, otherwise they'd have had to resort to starting Humphries most likely. Murphy can help them next season, allow them to bring along Favors slowly, then at the trade deadline he becomes a valuable piece (both because of his contract and his skill set) and in the event they don't get an offer(s) they like, they can just let his salary come off the books. Favors can and will still play, it's just that now they don't have to rush him and force him into playing a role he's not ready for. There's always the risk that a player's confidence could be destroyed in that scenario, a la Brown (Kwame).

I know you did. My point was I wouldn't trade either for Ariza. I agree that their upside isn't so great that you can't trade them, I just wouldn't for a relatively expensive SF who's a mediocre shooter and is close to or about as good as he's ever going to be. If they're not already, they can be better than Ariza. Even if this would have made an ounce of sense, it doesn't with Jefferson signed. I'm well aware of what Ariza would bring. Also, financially it wouldn't work. McDyess would almost certainly have to go in that trade as well.

The Spurs have some non-guaranteed contracts they could have sent Houston's way because some of the teams in this trade are under the cap and can absorb some salary.
