Unless Tim is gonna be quicker to go along with slimmer, this is horrible news.

He was already to the point where Gasol was too big for him to back down in the post.

I really don't think being slimmer gives him any sort of advantage unless he's gonna be quicker on rotations and with his movement overall.
It is a lot easier on the knees/ankles and being able to stay healthy. That is the main priority.

maybe he is training for his core strength too? because if he's 15 pounds lighter he'll also be 15 pounds easier to push on the block

If it's just dead weight, I'd agree. But what if it's active weight? Couldn't one the just counter with better footwork, timing, and increased speed? There are a lot of fighters in Manny Pacquiao's weight class, they're bigger, but they're not as fast as him, nor do they hit as clean. I'm hoping Tim is kinda the same way. Faster than last year, but clean as always.

It's funny, when Tim first came into the league, he wasn't the 260 that he's always listed as. If you recall, the 1998 World Team was supposed to have NBA players. Those players were dropped because they couldn't confirm if they would play if there was a lockout. Having said that, Tim was listed at 248. Say he drops to 240. Gasol is 250, Garnett is 253. Howard and Bynum are the heavies. They are 265 and 285 respectively. The Spurs heaviest player is DeJuan Blair at 265. Tim's fundamental and intellect are still intact, so I expect him to go for 17 & 10 easy.

Incidentally, do you guys remember that when Tim signed as the overall #1 pick, it was for 3 years $10 Million dollars. That's a popular contract term for San Antonio. It's the same deal that Tiago Splitter signed.

he's got to do what's best for his kness.

he's obviously going to be easier to push around on the block, and he doesn't have the athleticism to make up for it like he used to when he was younger.
but he won't be at that weight going into the playoffs anyway. it's just so that he's not putting too much weight on his knees during the season. by time playoffs roll around he'll be at his usually weight, but his knees will be able to take it having not put a lot of wieght on them throughout a lot of the season.

It means he toned his body LA haters. Yall are cute nitpicking at something like this. Since those remarks were made let me retort.

As a rookie he weighed 248. So after all these years he has lost tone and gained middle age man weight. He was listed last year at 260.

    Figure it out.

Let's face it, the seminal moment was when Amare had to help him up during the playoffs. It was like Sunday Mass:::I closed my eyes & bowed my head. It wasn't the end. Just the beginning of it.

    1997 to 1999 - 248 pounds
    2000 to 2008 - 260 pounds
    2009 - 245 pounds
    2010 - 230 pounds
    2011 - 215 pounds?
    2012 - 200 pounds??

D-Rob seemed so much larger then Timmy in most of there pictures. It's hard to believe Timmy was 260 and D-Rob was 250.

There's been some mis-interpreting on Duncan losing another 15 pounds. That isn't what Pop said. Duncan lost 15 last summer, and according to Pop is 'slimmer' than that now, but he didn't say how much Duncan may have lost this summer.

Gregg Popovich said Thursday that Duncan returned this summer for his 14th season perhaps in even better shape than a year ago, when the perennial All-Star reported to training camp 15 pounds lighter.

“He’s trim and slim. I think he’s even slimmer than he was last year,” Popovich said.

...Popovich didn’t say how much lighter Duncan might have come back.

Robinsons legs are toothpicks that's why. Duncan carries more weight waste down.

If Duncan is a little slimmer, I hope it's because he's lost fat and put on almost as much muscle.

TD was physically weak last year. I'm still worried that may be truer this year but hopefully this "slimmer" Duncan is actually just "leaner and meaner."

Kobe's arthritic knees and Bynum's gimpy legs. Mmmmm, not sure if the Lakers can talk smack about health in here. With all those mileage on their legs after going deep into the playoffs for the past three years, some Laker will break down this season. Tee, hee.

^I still don't believe that Bryant would permit Amare to assist him to his feet in the midst of a Skunker, like your Duncan did.

    I was aghast.

    But Manu is white...
