So, I did the draw for draft positions today (method: cut 12 equal squares of paper, write numbers 1-12 on them, draft out a number corresponding to each team, that number is your draft position):

    1 - LIT
    2 - RnROS
    3 - hsxvvd
    4 - Downtown Stars
    5 - 8FOR!3's Finest
    6 - Brazil
    7 - Nathan89
    8 - AussieKurt
    9 - Despurados
    10 - Thunderbolts
    11 - San Antonio Pines
    12 - Rodman2211

Wow! In an incredible coincidence, last yr's winner has the number 1 pick, and last year's runner-up has the second pick. Freaky. Looks like LIT has the inside running to repeat as champion.

Why did we do this again? To give you an opportunity to prepare your draft.

    Cheers,

    Ruff

PS You can swap draft positions if both players agree to it in this thread. After drafting 9th in my other roto, I think I'll keep 2nd unless you feel like swapping, LIT?

Hmmmmm...I'm going to ponder that for a while. To KD or not to KD?

Though, funnily enough in my other league I ended up drafting dead last; so should be kind of fun to see a draft unfold from the other perspective.

Oh yes, and this time I'm going to try and make sure that I actually live draft this year!

    Thanks for the update!

If you are really questioning my integrity (and not just joking) you can quit the league and I'll get someone else in. I knew someone would question the draw, but I've been around here since ST started and I would hope by now that people know I'm an honest man and a straight-shooter.

When it came down to the final two numbers I thought " , they are never going to believe I lucked into number 1... I'll have to re-do it". If you really think I'm the sad kind of person who would cheat on a fantasy basketball draft I'm not sure I want you in my league anyway.

BTW, I like 2nd, but I actually think 5-6-7 are often the best places to draft because you get a pick every 12-14 picks, which is an advantage. Snaking draw means that it all turns out pretty even in the end anyway... not sure I'm too keen about what will be available at number 23, whilst the people drafting 11-12th can put together two very nice complimentary picks from the elite players.

Fair enough. Looking forward to it.

I reckon it is pretty damn funny that LIT and I got picks 1 and 2 given that that's how we finished last year. I certainly mixed up the squares of paper as there were no other trends in the draw.

Oh, and BTW, I was last at one point last year, having lost picks 4-8 to injury, all for a fortnight or more, and I came back to lose by 0.5pt on the final day. Just shows that in roto you are never dead. WHo helped spark my revival? Collison and Thornton from the Hornets!

Not when I take him 2nd you won't.

Actually, I might take Paul, haven't decided yet. I'm pretty sure LIT will come to his senses and take Durant at 1, although I hope he doesn't.

I think I had the 6th spot last year too... I hate the 4 to 7-8 spots tbh but lets see what will happen.

Read this to better understand roto:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fantasy_basketball

    It's a very different game to head-to-head.

I have drafted at 6 and 9 so far. 6 was great (you get a pick every 12 picks and thus can capitalise on players who've been left behind), 9 sucked.

I think the 5 to 8-9 spots kind of suck for the first round, there is a clear top 4 but in the midle it's kind of risky everywhere, kobe broken finger, granger 60 games per year, wade and his how much his game is going to be altered by lbj and bosh... of course you can pass on them but kind a hard to figure out.

I keep getting pick 11, so this will be fun.

Those auction drafts have been killer too... trick is to nominate Grant Hill, Mike Bibby and other like players early and watch the autobots over pay... I'm built some awesome teams in the auctions.

BTW, what do people think about ast-TO ratio vs TOs as the 9th category. Which would you prefer? Usually it's TOs, I thought we'd run ast-TO ratio this year for something different, but really I don't mind either way. Comments?

#5 is beautiful in my opinion. Might be the best position possible for me. I'm excited.

As I've said before, picking 5-6-7 can be great because you are getting a pick about every 12. Picking at the start or end of rounds means you really need to know who you are targeting.
