Sympathy grew because of the feeling that he got screwed over by someone with less talent and grace. Reading The War For Late Night now - interesting read thus far.
Conan's comedic style is something you get or don't get, like or don't like. There is a ton of silliness and ridiculousness to it - it's not often the dry, sharp wit of someone like Stewart.
I really enjoy it. I roll my eyes at sketches like the masturbating bear, but still laugh because of the wry way Conan shakes his head over the whole thing. It's almost as if there is a level of meta-comedy involved, where you sit back and just laugh at the absurdity of it.
Not a bad start. Not too much bitterness, some funny bits at the expense of the whole thing (The Second Annual First Show!) (Rickey Gervais' multiple good luck videos) (the entire opening montage - Last Season on Conan). I'm thrilled he's back. Nothing particularly wild or out there, just Conan doing what he does.
