I personally don't give a about the guy. I suspect he's just one face.
Once he goes down, somebody else will probably pick the ball up.
What do you find particularly evil about the do ent leak?
Do you think if this guy didn't leak it somebody else wouldn't have?
I personally don't give a about the guy. I suspect he's just one face.

He's not American, so he could give a rat's ass about your 'free and good society'...many of the Assange leaks sure highlight some of the really nonsense stuff that govt keeps secret from us, sometimes for generations...we are supposed to be living in a country where informed people can make informed decisions, such as, bombing the out of a country and killing 1,000,000 of its citizens....this is exactly what the Bush Administration counted on to convince everyone else we had to go into Iraq....Had there been an Assange that was brave enough to stand up then, maybe there wouldn't be a money-pit cluster- in Iraq now....
ok mister ironies, explain to me how his personal privacy is in any way comparable to the privacy of states and corporations? why is Julian Assange's personal transparency more important than the transparency of public ins utions and private conglomerates? Because if you all really want to compare corps and govts to an individual like that, then I guess you would agree that they should be taxed and policed the same way as individuals are right? You can't really simultaneously argue against accountability and then hold Assange to a higher standard than your own government, can you?
(cue american exceptionalism bla bla bla)
and I love this argument that he's out to do it for his ego. Hmm, lets see. I have the ability to extract sensitive information and I'm an egomaniac. Reasonable options:
a) specialize in celebrity gossip and go for the gawker/TMZ market, making tidy sums of money and becoming a little celebrity myself, getting press passes to celebrity events and every groupie with a story to tell after me
(money: check, fame: check, glamour: check)
b) specialize in industrial / state espionage, sell it to the highest bidder, use the money and connections to extort myself into a position of extreme wealth and power
(money: double-check, power: check, glamour: half-check, fame: no)
c) specialize in corruption and abuse of power, give it away for free, risk every intelligence agency on the planet coming down on me, and the corporate media coming down on me, and even have swiss banks (the same ones that have been protecting the privacy of dictators and drug runners for decades) blacklist me
(money: where? power: where? fame: what kind? glamour: if you consider being a martyr glamorous, maybe)
yeah clearly he went for personal expediency on this.
I think some of you just can't fathom that the guy hasn't sold out (which would have been VERY easy to do), so that must make him a asshole or a .
really, please, tell me how Assange is getting ahead and making a name for himself with this. Since making the last leak, he's been accused of rape, searched for by Interpol, jailed, cut off by his bank, his credit card company, accused of treason and terrorism, had his websites attacked by other "cyber terrorists", had large parts of the media paint him as all sorts of evil, and had public officials openly discussing how to execute or assasinate him. if you call that "getting ahead" or "making a name for yourself"...
Notoriety is a kind of fame too and "ladies love outlaws."
Also, the notion of self-sacrifice to higher principles is an ever present seduction to sensitive idealists.

yes I accounted for that. But is it worth much when you are persona non grata everywhere, can't travel, have no money, and thousands of people that want to kill you? Do the ladies just love terrorist rapists (as he is being called in many media outlets)?
Most of the people that put up with having thousands of people that hate and want to kill you trade that off with money and power. What is the money and power Assange is getting from this?
Unbelievably, yes.
Speculative money and power. Most of the people that put up with having thousands of people that hate and want to kill you trade that off with money and power. What is the money and power Assange is getting from this?
If Wikileaks/Assange survives the legal process with liberty and estate intact, at some point governments will presumably be keen to strike deals.
they would have been much more keen to strike deals before he exposed them. they won't make deals with him now that they've discredited him (at least, they'd be very stupid to make deals now that they have discredited him); the only reason they would is if there is much more and much dirtier info than has been released as of yet, and in that sense striking a deal hurts the reputation of all parties involved. If Assange wanted money and power, he would have sold this info off to the russian govt/mafia a long time ago, very handsomely I might add, and spending his fortune in serbian river casinos instead of being in house arrest somewhere in england.
"how his personal privacy is in any way comparable to the privacy of states and corporations"
It isn't. Just another false equivalency. As the WaPo article pointed out, govt and corps operate a one-way mirror: they secretly denude us, while they operate in total secrecy.
The conservative/Repug s can't see that Assange did the world a great favor. They'd rather be lied to and remain ignorant because the lies agree with their ignorant fantasies, lessness, and paranoia.
I see you have been reading Bush's playbook.
So you believe in corruption of blood?
This thread is on pace to set a record for the amount of SpursTalk butt-hurt in one thread.
whose memoir will be worse palin or assange?
now the turd is using the information he has as a way to blackmail and threaten people to protect himself?
ha ha ha...
He was a traitor before he took on Hilary. Then DarrinS's whole perspective changed. Started propping himself up on Julian Assange to ridicule others.
DarrinS never guessed that transparency might cut in any direction at all.
Assange wasn't -- isn't -- an ideological puppet. He pretty much hates power per se and sees hacking and freedom of information as a bulwark against it.
Seeks power himself.
And he has a gigantic ego.
of a bump though. Almost 6 years.
Funny/ironic![]()
I am shocked, shocked I say.
Show me a post where I've praised him. Lol @ you guys bumping old .![]()
The point is that you're cheering him on with the Hillary leaks. But you were singing a different tune however many years ago.
Doesn't matter though. This guy IS a piece of .
I'm all for full transparency but what he does is selective targetting for his benefit.
