    This sucks.

If Spurs win, it won't be respected.

If Spurs lose, the loss will be magnified because of Dirk being out.

    Hate these games.

    I'm not happy at all.

It's a lose lose situation. Mavs win (unlikely) and Spurs will feel like , Mavs lose and still it's not a real win vs. mavs w/out Dirk.
Ridiculous. A win is a win and at this point in Spurs/Mavs history, the players and coaches don't read anymore into it.

I remember a few years back spurs were missing Parker and Duncan and all spurs had was Manu and Mavs got curbstomped at AT&T center. However don't see that happening tonight, mavs are lacking severly offensively
Well, there are so many intangibles that can influence the outcome from players' health, energy level and motivation. I'm sure the Mavs will be very motivated and they are in front of their home crowd. And if the Mavs focus on lockdown D it will probably be close and they'd have a good shot.

Agreed. After seeing the Spurs land the 7th seed due to a couple of chokes, every win is important.

DALLAS -- There hasn't been any definitive word from the Mavericks yet on Dirk Nowitzki's status for tonight's game.

However, the Spurs would be surprised if Nowitzki doesn't play in the meeting between the West powers and I-35 rivals.

"I’m quite confident Dirk will be out there tonight," San Antonio coach Gregg Popovich said.

Nowitzki suffered a mild sprain of his right knee during the second quarter of Monday's win over the Thunder. He didn't return to that game and said afterward that the knee had been bothering him for a couple of weeks.

The Mavs ruled Nowitzki out of Tuesday's game against the Raptors after he got an MRI that morning, although the results showed no serious damage. He's been listed as day-to-day since then.

The Mavs might make his status official when their shootaround ends in a few moments. Or they could extend the suspense by declaring him a gametime decision.

Not that the Spurs are eagerly anticipating the news.

"We’re planning as if he’s going to play," Tim Duncan said.

I really hope he doesn't try to play. If he does, he's sure to go like 15/15.

who cares, even if he plays the mavs fans would cry about something if we won. Let's just win the game and keep adding to our record....

agreed. i know several mavs fans that made excuses about losing to the Raptors without dirk. it's the raptors. you beat them, dirk or no dirk. pretty pathetic.

The Spurs better drop the hammer early and build a huge lead. Terry can be a nightmare for us in the 4th quarter if the game is close.

Dirk or no Dirk, just win.

    GO SPURS GO!!!!!

Definitely would have rather had Dirk in the game. Win or lose, the Spurs need these match ups to gauge themselves and their preparedness for the post-season.

None the less, this is a good opportunity to get another W and, more importantly, deal an L to a close compe or. Though I don't take much pride in the W.

The solution, then, is to make sure you don't lose. Who cares about respect? You don't earn respect by winning games in December. You earn it in the playoffs.

I don't care who respects us and frankly I hope everyone underestimates us going into the playoffs. Only loser teams like Dallas who've never won anything care about respect in December. The ONLY thing that matters right now is getting as many wins as possible, positioning ourselves for home court advantage throughout the playoffs and making that road as easy as possible.

If Dirk doesn't play, it's a lucky break for us and we better capitalize, and same thing if KG doesn't play next week when we're at Boston. We played a bunch of games the past three years without Manu, or Tony, or Tim and I don't remember any of the teams we lost to attaching an asterisk to those wins. They all count the same in the standings. Just win the damn game.

I want to see Hill on Butler. He's been scoring 20 pts a game. Treat him like kobe, put a little bit of manu, hill, and jefferson on him.
So they lose their dirk jumpshot that no one can defend, and put marion instead. Dont think we have anyone as long and fast as him, just have to body up on him without fouling, make his gazelle-like jumpers/hookshots difficult.
Oh, and if haywood is in: Hack-a-Haywood. Dude is 28% from the free throw line. He makes shaq look like brent barry.

Dirk's injury is unfortunate, but I hope spurs show no mercy and take care of business. Even if the Big Germ plays he won't be 100%, so this is a win win situation.

lol @ respect, the Spurs are 27-4 and some idiot on ESPN ranked them 5th overall in the grand scheme of things........ respect (because they're not going to get it either way) get the W and come back home.

In the first half of the season who cares? 40 games from now and few would remember beyond a digit in a column in the standings.

Its that digit in the standings that matters most right now. We just came off a big win. Keep us low and under the radar.

The Spurs don't even get hype (not respect) when they win it all.

When it comes to respect (the real stuff, not front page hyperbole), the Spurs are at the top of the list.

Great post. This is exactly how I feel about the situation.
