So when Ira says Bruce Bowen like feistiness for George Hill, is he intimating that when Bruce played for the Spurs, that he was a compelling villain and the Spurs should get some national run because of that? While they did, it's still a negative connotation. When Ron Artest played in Indianapolis, he was villainous. Now that he's in Los Angeles, he's considered a staunch defender. Same guy who clubbed TP on a fast break to the basket. Same guy. Alas, media also would have us believe that Steve Blake is a solid defender that the Lakers needed to counter the speedy PGs in the West. So now that he's Steve Blake(r), he's all of sudden...a solid defender?
The media created the perception. It's the fan that takes the time to watch and form their own critical opinions, who learns why TEAM basketball is better than STAR basketball. San Antonio is truly TEAM basketball.

not only are they THE most unrecognized team, they're actively on by the media and the league due to ratings poison.

Why do some spurs fans have the oh god they're not recognizing our team so we'll about it thing? It's getting annoying tbh. Your team is 28-4, on top of the NBA and you're like attention es dying for camera time
Though I don't agree the spurs are the best team (I believe it's the heat, Orlando, and Dallas at the very top, with the celts and spurs close behind) I do agree with some spurs on this board. Your team has arguably gotten more coverage the past decade than any sports team in America... With the exception of the cowboys of course. The mavs know how the spurs feel right now... Being dismissed as overrated and so on, not seeing them on television as much as they may merit... And as reasonable as you sound here.... You are not the proper one to be speaking

Regardless, I'll say it one last time and then I'll shut up I guess. You are being dismissed by the NBA as the best team because.... Who have you beaten of any great significance? OKC and Utah? You haven't had many real tests... And the two you did have (Orlando and Dallas at full strength) you failed. Everyone knows the lakers are in a funk right now (or just declining).

Amazing we have two threads going: one claiming the media gives the Spurs no recognition and one with Barkley claiming we are overated. WTF?

I guess claiming we are overated is the same as giving us no recognition. Just weird though.

We are 28-4, whether we get recognition or not.

    Please let me clarify this:

I'm not disappointed that the Spurs don't get 24 hour press. It's understandable because 1) SA is a small market and 2) the team doesn't have any media- s. I think we should all come to accept that, because winning les is the most important

What does disappoint me is how the Spurs are portrayed when they are covered. The media takes every opportunity to belittle what they've accomplished or give them backhanded compliments. For example, no one (besides Barkley) says, "Tim Duncan is the greatest power forward of all time." Instead, it's always "Tim Duncan is ARGUABLY one of the greatest power forwards of all time." When asked if the Spurs are considered a dynasty, every talking head says they've never repeated as champions. Funny, because those 80's Celtic teams didn't repeat and yet they are held in such higher regard!

Read the headlines on NBA.com, especially during a winning streak. If it's a Spurs victory, I guarantee they'll run with a headline similar to this: "Spurs win...again." Could they be any more enthusiastic? Now if it's the Lakers or Celtics on a streak, you'll read something along the lines of "Lakers dominate! Extend streak to 5!"

As fans, I think we have a right to be pissed off about it. Winners deserve respect. When the media downplays what SA has accomplished it's like they are also downplaying us as fans too. To see our beloved Silver and Black crew get pissed on when they do nothing but stay in contention year in and year out does warrant some criticism.

Lakers fans, Heat fans, Celtics fans...they've never had to endure this bull .
This is all true..i can picture those headlines.

If the spurs were the same record, with "characters" instead of players, tatted up, braids, with headbands with the upside down nba logos etc., I'm sure things would be different.

Have you guys noticed commercials to advertise for the NBA seem to always show whatever star player dunking on one of the Spurs? I can't help but laugh at that bull .

No ing way... you actually believe YOUR team is ahead... get out of the city...

The Mavs have no reason to complain. They haven't done anything noteworthy. If you had a prodigy on your team and had the same record you do now, your prodigy would get attention, but you guys are just regular season contenders that showed a total lack of for ude in the Finals.

Well yeah... WE BEAT YOU when both teams were at full strength, it's a reasonable assumption to make (as I believe most of the NBA has made that assumption now).

And calling us chokers is old. In the past two years our roster has been
completely overhauled almost, including a new coach. The mavericks you are speaking of have had one playoff series together, and that was without Chandler and Beaubois (for the most part).

And what have WE done this season? Only beat...
    Denver
    OKC (twice)
    Boston
    Orlando (after trade)
    Miami(twice)
    Utah (twice)
    Atlanta

Ifnyou guys had this track record this season and you still had the first or second record in the league, I wouldn't doubt you.

And still lost as a second seed to a seventh seed.

    Nothing has changed.

Get back to us when these "new" Mavs actually achieve something that hasn't already been achieved by the "old" Mavs. You know, something other than regular season success and post season failure.

    Until then, just shhhhhh...

And what have WE done this season? Only beat...

Denver <==== We beat them twice
OKC (twice) <==== 1 and 0 against them
Boston <==== Haven't played them yet
Orlando (after trade) <==== RIGHT after the trade, hollow win IMO, we beat them when they were clicking early
    Miami(twice) <==== Haven't played them yet
Utah (twice) <==== Aww, we only beat them once... the one time we played
Atlanta <==== We whipped them so bad, not even proud of it

Ifnyou guys had this track record this season and you still had the first or second record in the league, I wouldn't doubt you.

Plus we beat a desperate Lakers team.

Compared to other teams that have won 4 les in under a decade, we receive very little "recognition". But every time I walk out of the AT&T Center, I still see those 4 trophies there. That's all I care about.

I just want a 5th one for Duncan to go out in style.

Both Memphis and Milwaukee are probably low seeded playoff candidates this year... Not NEARLY as bad as losing to the..... CLIPPERS

And yes we lost to Toronto w no dirk on a very uninspired b2b, if you guys want to be the only team that hangs that over our head so be it.... But u guys lost to the clippers with no excuses, so hush

Seriously though. Why are we comparing regular season games now? Who gives a ?

We all know that both teams will probably be 1 and 2 by season's end. None of these who cares if the Mavs played uninspired against Toronto one night and then the Spurs didn't give a another night against the Clippers in November/December?

Ha ha.. Did you even check the Spurs' schedule - knucklehead? If you can forgive your lousy Mavs for losing to the Craptors on a back-to-back, you apply the same standards for the best record holding Spurs losing on a back to back to the Clippers.

Remember that these Spurs have a guy with 4 rings, two guys with 3 and championship moxie.. These are not guys who will blow it when it counts and take their anger on exercise bikes

And what was the luxury tax your crazy owner was paying to keep up this loss-guaranteeing team? $30 million eh? Talk about over investment on underperforming assets.
