it's an old prejudice that Duke doesn't produce good pros.
it's right they never produced a superstar, but players like Grant Hill, Elton Brand, Boozer (considering he was a 2nd round pick), Luol Deng, Battier and some more can hardly be called disappointments.
I know, it's mostly about guys like Leattner and Dunleavy, who couldn't justify their #3 picks, but you find such players from other schools as well.
talking about role players (and at #29 we can hardly talk about potential stars) I think Duke is a better reference than most other schools. usually players from there have at least learned some defensive fundamentals und to integrate into a system.
I wouldn't want Singler though. but not because he is from Duke.

    I like Singler

As previous posters have already stated he does a lot of things very well, just none of them exceptional.

He is a kid that would have been a lottery pick if he came out a year ago, and now could fall to us at 29.

It would be a solid pick. We aren't getting a game changer at 29, but if you could potentially get a player who can contribute immediately at SF when that is an area of need, then I think it's a solid pick

Fine. To be more precise, Duke has not produced much in the way of NBA talent in a very long time. All those players you've mentioned are on the down slope of their careers. They haven't produced NBA players in quite a long time.

Speaking of which, UNC has been pretty disappointing in that field, as well.
