I kind of wished they would have given this spot to a young project in hopes to develop. Oh well, at least its a at the very end of the bench player. Still this is a bit of wasted money and potential if you ask me.

Seems to me Novak's only role other than garbage time will be if we're in need of a 3 with under 5sec to go. If he hits one big shot in a situation like that, it'll be worth it. Fortunately we haven't been faced with many the past 20 days.

Under 5 seconds and we need a three:

    Manu
    TP
    Timmy
    Neal
    and
    Novak???????

is what I would say. Most likely not Parker since under 5 seconds you have to run a set play and usually only get 1st or 2nd option. You could make an argument for Hill, though.

I am a contrarian as I saw him play on the road and he impressed me with his hustle and willing to go inside and he hustled and least at tried to play some defense - albeit it was a blowout against the Wizards, but he went head to toe with some bigger players and effectively for a limited stretch. Why not a guy like this?

Not liking this, but who cares... This spot doesn't get minutes anyways... would have been nicer to have a big body to challenge blair in practice.. Blair must eat our bigs alive in practice.

Might be a little early to call it a trend, but Leo Lyons has been tearing it up for the Toros at PF, averaging 30 points and shooting 44% from the arc the past three games, the last two against Joe Alexander. Hasn't really got much over Novak save a better inside game and younger legs able to run the floor for 40 minutes. Probably worth keeping an eye on going into the summer.

    True that. Good point.

My point was that no matter what his skill set is, I don't think you put Novak in that situation if all he's been playing is garbage time.

I can't find a decent nickname for Novak
    Steve "Kerr" Novak.

At least that will be his name when he saves the Spurs ass like Kerr did in '03.

Not bad, not bad. Novak ... Prozac. Works.

I find that heroin works better for the worries, though.

Yeah. It's all fine until they find you in a pool of vomit next to a hand scrawled roster of your starting 5 cartoon players.

Well, I didn't say it worked better for my worries. Some people shoot hoops, I shoot up homeless people in my spare time.

Trust me, they've got no worries - and my team of cartoon players and I are no worse for the wear.

    I'll tell you this right now . . .

If Novak gets PT in the playoffs over Anderson/Splitter, I am going to break into Pop's wine cellar and drink until the cops arrive.

This signing does not surprise me in the least. It is consistent with what I expect of Pop in his "system". Steve is a direct replacement for Matt Bonner. He has similar skills. If Matt's knee problem resurfaces, then Novak can take over that role.

Do I wish the Spurs had signed a shot-blocking Big? Absolutely!

I'm fine with it. Novak has some size, so it's better to have him than yet another 6'5" guy. And he can flat-out shoot it.

I've seen him play quite a bit here in LA when he was with the Clippers, and when he got on the floor, he was actually a very solid player. Obviously not the most athletic guy, but if he were, we couldn't sign him for the league minimum either.

What do some of you want the Spurs to do? There's nothing really else out there. And it's not like he'll be in the rotation come Playoff time anyway with TD, Blair, Bonner, Dice, and Splitter ahead of him. Just the 11th/12th man on the team..
