It wasn't complete . Robinson clearly had something against Shaq since the beginning of Shaq's career,
    You mean "compe iveness"?

to the point where he went against the man above and ran up the score against the Clippers in a meaningless game to steal the scoring le from Shaq. It was petty and bushleague.
Watch clips from that game again. Not only did he want that scoring le, but his teammates wanted that scoring le for him, and so did the Clipper "faithful."

, at one point, you can even see some excitement on the Clip bench. That had nothing to do w/ who he was topping that game. It was simply the fact that it was there for the taking.

I think we should take a minute and recognize Robinson's high SAT scores.

He is an amazing human being.

Did Robinson ever want the scoring le outside of the '94 season? It just seems odd to me that the one time he ever played to win the scoring le (in a blatantly obvious manner mind you) was the season when Shaq was the other one in contention for it. Maybe he really did want it, but he didn't seem like someone who ever gave a about the scoring le sans the 1994 season.

Chances are Robinson did deny Shaq an autograph (like all athletes do). The yelling part is probably bull though.

Robinson's compe iveness has never been in question. I'm not sure what all the reasons for him wanting a scoring le were, but I wouldn't have a problem if him wanting to beat out shaq was one of those reasons. When you're at the top of the game it's natural to challenge others at the top.

Shaq created that story because he had no reason to dislike Robinson. And Shaq always needed outside reasons to dislilke his opponents. I guess it's what motivates him.

Robinson was always everything that Shaq was not.

Obviously, I can't honestly say for sure how many other times he may have "wanted" the scoring le. That game, he sure as did. He needed 33. He got 71. It was, admittedly, one of the least "humble" moments in Rob's career, but I can't fault the guy for it. He was hot. Why not see whatchoo can get out of it? Had it simply been to beat out Shaq, why not get the 34, and sit him?

He was simply having an amazing game. Might as well sit back and enjoy it.

I wasn't questioning his compe iveness by saying he wasn't someone who cared about the scoring le, I was saying it always seemed like he cared about other (like winning games), and not the scoring le.

Shaq probably embellished the autograph story. If he wanted to pull a story out of thin air I think he woulda done something better than "D-Rob yelled at me for asking for an autograph," and as you said, he needed something to motivate him. He never seemed like someone who was motivated by basketball itself.

That's prolly true. It'd make sense, given the countless times he whined about being "slighted" by someone else. I've always thought him to be one of, if not THE most insecure players in history.

Maybe it was simply what he used to compete...to keep his head in it.

    Point of order…

Shaq has never said that Robinson yelled at him…Shaqs story per his book is that Robinson snubbed him when he asked for his autograph….To which Robinson replied….I think that I would have remembered a 7’ tall 275 lb San Antonio teenager asking me for an autograph….

Shaq said somewhere (maybe in his book) that he hated the three big men (Mutumbo, Ewing and Mourning) who came out of Georgetown because of all the re ed y they did. Mutumbo especially because of the re ed finger wag.
What about that stupid ing duck walk he used to do after dunks? He's one to talk.

I could have sworn Shaq dunked Mutombo's head several times in that Final series. It was brutal.

I'm a Shaq fan and even apologist, but the stuff he got away with in that series... smh. Mutombo is lucky to not have permanent impairment from all the cranial damage he sustained in that series.

Dude was a freaking monster. I can't imagine how dominant he would have been if he came to the NBA earlier when he was healthy.
