That's a good question, GGA. Although, to be fair, that picture is painted pretty broadly since we both know, I think, a fair number of rich people who do "get it."

More telling would be the traits that separate those of us that do get it, from those of us that don't/can't.
I think it's more a function of how you define 'rich". Just raising taxes on those making over $250,000 isn't gonna cut it. The big money is in the middle class.

It's the battle to frame an issue... Frame the issue the right way and you win.

Meanwhile, back home, California legislators are dealing with really important issues like mandating that "gay history" be taught in schools...

They got nothing on TX Board of Education erasing Thomas Jefferson from history books, having Creationism fairy tales offered in public schools as plausible, scientific alternative to biological evolution, which is disparaged as "just a theory".

    cowards and itdiots I agree.

I'd like to see the administration hold their ground this time and let the cuts expire or end. We want shared sacrifice so let's share the pain... that is what I would tell the GOP.. why not the rich feel it also? Why only the middle and lower class folks?
I certainly agree that the taxes on the rich need to go up, but we still have about half the country who is paying $0, or less, in income taxes. There's a lot of people in the middle and lower classes getting a free ride. Their taxes need to go up too.

I think it's more a function of how you define 'rich". Just raising taxes on those making over $250,000 isn't gonna cut it. The big money is in the middle class.
    Yep.

Cost of 2yr Bush extension for >$250k = $81.5 billion
Cost of 2yr Bush extension for <$250k = $463 billion

If Texas is so attractive, why do we have to bribe companies and race tracks and super bowls to come here?

Our elected democrat and republican leaders extended them, so apparantely they think those cuts worked out just fine.
DeLay had nothing to do with it?

Barry folded. It's said he agreed to extend wealthy tax cuts in order to get non-wealthy tax extended. He should have played hard ball, no deal, ALL tax cuts expire.

Then we would have seen how serious Americans were about the Repugs fabricated deficit crisis and protecting future generations from debt burden.

    Not that simple.

Low cost of living. Good quality of life. Low taxes. Business friendly environment.
... ty minimum wage jobs. If Cali wants to emulate us, they just need to open a load of FF restaurants, payday loan places, and Walmarts. Oh, and give a bunch of richers tax breaks, lowering the balance in their state coffers even more.
