LOS ANGELES - New Orleans Hornets backup center Aaron Gray was held out of Monday's practice and remains questionable to play in Wednesday night’s Game 2 against Los Angeles Lakers because of a sprained right ankle.
Gray spent most of the practice lying on a trainer’s table with his ankle elevated. He said the swelling has gone down a lot and his range of motion is returning, but Gray left practice walking in a protective boot.
“We would like to have him out there on the floor,’’ Hornets Coach Monty Williams said. “We got a couple of days, so we’ll see.’’
Gray had a sensational performance in the Hornets’ 109-100 upset victory against the Lakers on Sunday, finishing with a season-high 12 points after making all five shots. He went down with the injury with 5:54 remaining in the game after trying to grab a rebound.
“I’m taking it day-by-day and getting a lot of treatment,’’ Gray said. “Obviously we got another practice and shootaround. But I got a softball in there.’’
It'd be a boon if he was out Wednesday nite.
Hope, hope.
Pao is monitoring this story very closely.
He should be working with his teammates how to handle the pick-and-pop. The Lakers solve that and hit the boards and they won't need more than a 5-game series.
