That all changes when you get to ST.
Then you sit in a part of the theater where you don't disturb people getting up. These are the sacrifices YOU should have to make for choosing to have children.
Its not that *I* don't understand, its that you should not impose the results of your decisions on others who have not made the same choices as you.
There are different types of movies shown at the drafthouse. That being said, I've never seen the drafthouse encourage people acting like that in first run movies. Yes, they have special showings of older movies that are intended to be interactive experiences but I think its fairly safe to assume that the behavior expected at those showings is not expected at a movie the first night its out.And that would make sense, except that the Drafthouse encourages these type of activities (sans texting) as many have stated, so really, it's pretty hypocritical of them to tell you not to text, but yet, will allow you to chat, yell at the screen and even recite the lines out loud. Not to mention that waiters and what not.
Its not hypocritical at all. Its two different situations.
That all changes when you get to ST.
Um, who are you to say what is OK?Don't I get to decide what I think is OK for myself? Pretty sure every theater I go to they say no talking or texting on your phone in the theater.
I'll be the first to admit I've very anal about this. When I'm out I can usually let a lot of go with the exception of bad customer service at service oriented businesses and people who can't follow simple rules and etiquette at the movies.
Works for me
Can't guarantee that me getting up and leaving to text "ok" only to return 3 seconds later is less distracting thoughBut I have no problem following the rules.
Koriwhat is an idiot. I go to the Alamo nearly everytime I see a movie. The food is pretty decent (slightly overpriced) and drinking beer during a movie is awesome. They don't use pirated material . . . lol, and the service is only distracting if you are a total moron who lacks the attention span to focus on the movie. They have events that are specifically advertised as audience participation showings. Nobody talks during a regular movie showing and it's cool that they don't tolerate cell phone use. You are there to watch a movie, not text your re friends. Dumbass.
nathanexplosion = correct, watching from your own home is the best. People at theaters are complete faces. The times I enjoy going the most are late at night during a random weeknight like Tuesday. opening night.
The reason I'm probably at the movies is to escape from my 2 teens, tbqh.
My phone is off during movies. I can't imagine how my parents survived not being able to have their thumbs on me every second of the day and night before there was any such thing as a cell phone. That's probably why my dad was totally grey-headed by the time he was 35.![]()
I hadn't been to an open night movie in a long ass time until I saw XMen on Friday and yeah, opening night. I should have just waited till the next morning when it would have been dead as because there were so many stupid s in the theater that apparently can't STFU and watch a movie for a couple of hours. Cell phones popping up all over the place because they have to post to Facebook or text.
Yes, you guys are right. The picture at home is better and the sound is almost as good without the hassle.
I give up on movies at the theater for the most part ... it just pisses me off too much when I see parents bringing in toddlers to R rated, violent movies.
We went to a late show of The Watchmen a while back (obviously), and there were really little kids running around everywhere. WTF??
Also, I'm quite certain that many of you are capable of checking your phone in the theater without anyone else noticing or making a big show out of it and you are probably right that getting up would be more of a distraction. You are probably (I say probably - that breeder Nathan I'm not so sure about) but those assholes who are inconsiderate as has pretty much ruined it for those with common sense.
Or parents who won't take their kids out to the lobby? Look, if I go see a 2pm showing on a Saturday for Kung Fu Panda I know what I'm getting myself into and I expect that. But like you said, a 10 pm showing for Watchmen with kids?
WHO THE LET THESE PEOPLE HAVE KIDS?!?!?!?
I believe the theater's intention is to not have all the really bright screens flashing in a dark room. There's a setting in your phone to control that. I use it and it works like a charm. Silent is silent. If you can't silently send a text then there's absolutely no hope for you.
Plus, how courteous do you have to be in a place where you're supposed to be quiet that's labeled a "drafthouse"?
Not just movies. I really can't stand how many people seem to think the world is their living room these days.
A clear lack of respect.
Bottom-line "Don't text with Texas"

The point is, after the first time, you won't be getting up every 3 seconds since it's a hassle and that's fine with me. I also don't want to see your screen light up every 15 seconds in my periphial vision disturbing my movie going experience and here you laugh to yourself or your fingers typing 150 wps on a phone screen or qwerty board.
No. You raise your kids. It's not a community parenting thing. If you need special consideration, go to a place that provides it. I don't want your kid raising and monitoring to be part of my movie experience.
And that point is not lost on me. My screen is never fully bright, I don't laugh to myself and never in my wildest dreams have I even approached 30 words per minute with my one finger texting method (maybe that would improve if I owned a qwerty?) I agree 100% with you![]()
I continue to be amazed at the conversations that people have on their phones in public, and then they look at you funny! Hey, person, I am not trying to listen to you talk about your medical issues in HEB, but given that you are almost screaming, I can't help but notice you.
It is ironic that so many laws have been passed about protecting people's privacy, but they give away their own privacy all the time on public phone calls and social media.
I finally got home and was able to watch this. LMAOLOLOLOLOL, especially because they do use it as a PSA before all of their R-rated flicks.
OMG ... what a classy broad!![]()
They did. I worked there. They also used to sell printed logo shirts of they didn't own for years until they got confronted about it. They also used to charge people showing old movies off of DVDs, which is extremely lame. They got called on that too.
you're a in' idiot, no denying that.
food is , beer is way too damn expensive, and yes, they most definitely have shown PIRATED MOVIES AT THE ALAMO DRAFTHOUSE. i can assure you they showed pirated movies there on many occasions when i used to frequent that place with my friend eric. we went and saw "transformers" the cartoon for s and giggles one night and guess what, they were showing a pirated copy by a distribution group online that i recognized by the watermark at the bottom of the film and that wasn't the only time i caught them in the act.
that place is a piece of , sorry to hurt your feelings but it's true.
btw, i went and saw "pineapple express" there the day it opened and you definitely wouldn't know it was opening night considering all the chatter and bs going on in the theater, in' horrible experience trying to watch that movie.
REAL TALK!
who really gives a about some dip texting? i don't.
btw, you're a dumbass who now looks like more of a dumbass... "they don't show pirated movies!" dumbass!
A watermarked copy of a Transformers cartoon? That's your smoking gun? There is no way they could get away with showing pirated movies. That is heavily regulated. They would be shut down instead of opening new theaters.
