That last season Hakeem played in Toronto made me sad to watch. I really hope Tim doesn't do anything like that. Personally I would be more than willing to humiliate myself for that kind of money. I mean, there would be more than enough to get some counseling, if it bothered me that much.

But I hope Tim doesn't do it.

I've seen a few players get a second wind. And I've seen some, like Grant Hill, come back after an injury stronger than I ever thought they could. But I don't think Timmy's knee is coming back. Next season may not be the end, but if he stays here, the organization will see to it that he goes out with dignity. Hakeem and Shaq are both examples of doing it the other way.

With a likely lockout, it's very risky for Duncan to walk away from $21.2M to re-sign later a new contract. It makes sense for him not to take that risk.

Whatever will be the new CBA, don't expect Spurs to go after some big name FA because they likely won't have the money to do so. I wouldn't be surprised to see Spurs only adding players paid the minimum salary.
i think d12 (has to sign on to play for this 1 year only, to be FA again next season) would be nice if his willing to come here to play, duncan off the books, dunno how much we be under the cap, but better then not trying to target him...

we need to move rj contract and let the pieces fall

duncan has earned that contract, as for the majority of players on the team earnin +3m excluding ginoboli, should take a hard look in the mirror and ask themselves what have you done for me lately

Timmy won't sign anywhere else. He'll resign for vet min if he still wants to play, but more likely is I think he'll retire.

I think that there's virtually no chance he goes down that road like Patrick Ewing or Shaq, but if he did how could any San Antonio fan have any hard feelings about the decision?

Without TD, there are no championships and there very well might not be an arena or a team in San Antonio.
    This.

I'd be happy regardless of Timmys decision. He's earned his. Let the man decide how and where to end his career.

I wonder what would happen if Timmys contract allowed a reasonable trade scenario to be set up with a contender mid-season.........say a Miami.

The meltdown would rival Chernobyl and Fukushima.

    Nice!

If Tim asked for $50M in the last year of his contract he'd deserve it.

I agree. I know it sounds impossible in this day and age that a sports superstar could--like David Robinson--remain loyal to the same team for the entirety of his career until retirement. But while I couldn't blame Tim for bailing in his final years in a desperate attempt to win a couple of more rings at the risk of further injury, I just can't see him suddenly turning into a different person. I'm just not sure I could handle a selfish Tim Duncan, but I'm pretty sure I won't have to worry about it.
