Len Bias?
Can I say Richard Jefferson?
Went from a 20 PPG scorer in Milwaukee to one of the worst players on the Spurs.
Oh and Vince Carter turned to pretty fast.
Len Bias never even played NBA so I don't think that counts
Y'all are forgetting the ultimate.
Len Bias.
Bias was positively scary, and I have no doubt that he would have been a Hall of Fame NBA player.
My favorite memory of Bias was when he would take off for a dunk...he would make a shrill sound like a plane right before takeoff. It was a chilling sound to hear, because you knew you better run for cover. Bias dunked really hard - and really often. He enjoyed the fact that he could jump out of the gym, but also knew that nobody was bad enough to stop him from doing it. Dude had the killer instinct for sure.
smokey was a real good player from 05 to 07 tbh but good time was too short for him, weed ruined his career. t-mac didn't burn out too fast mayne joined the league in 97 although in his first years he lived in his cousin's shadow he later established himself as a star player in orlando, he had some good years in orlando in which he was da league's leading scorer two years in a row. even after joining houston playing wit dat 7'6 jinx he was still one of the league's top scorers with 25/5/5 season averages
steve never been good as t-mac but he was still an all-star caliber, got jinxed so bad and was not any more the same player as pre-02. steve was drafted in 99, the same year with brand, odom etc...
Good call. Penny was a MFer before the injuries wreaked his career.
As did his dealer
Regarding penny, I really don't think getting micro fracture surgery and 315 other different knee surgeries, losing any athleticism you had, and sucking is "burning out".
Yeah, Finley is another good example. He was already well into the declining phase by the time he hit 30. His prime was only really from '98 to '02.
Too many years of 40+ minutes tbh
Also, he had a long prime and I don't think he burned out "too fast", but Tim Duncan's decline happened quickly. He looked like he had plenty of good years left playing at an AS level through the first half of the '09 season, but he went from AS to role player pretty quickly post 2009 AS break. I don't really know why given he doesn't have TONS of mileage on him or anything and he takes really good care of himself when he's not playing basketball.
what about Andrei Kirilenko?
he had a good 3 year stretch where he was one of the best all around players in basketball, and then he just seemed to disappear
Short timer syndrome.
there ain't that many players drafted 97' or before who're still performing at AS level imho, Kobe, Kidd and maybe KG thats all names i can remember. Duncan was heavily overused in his prime and he also suffered injuries every now and then. started in ASG every year since he joined da league in 97 until the streak ended in 09 IIRC, 4 rings and 20+10 career averages
Amusing.
Actually, the "why" isn't that difficult, but I'm sure it escaped them. They didn't put in the work. Both of them relied on their athletic gifts, but when their quicks and vert went south, so did their games.
I wonder if LBJ will be added to the list one day
Story of your sex life...
Insulting.
