Nets trying to learn from lessons of last year, when they overpaid for players in free agency. They eased back on Caron Butler today.

^ Smart move not getting saddled with average players. They should stand pat and try to get Howard to Brooklyn next season.

'Eh, no way the Spurs were going to compete with that money. No big loss, though I wonder where the team is going to be headed now. I still think they should try to trade Parker to the Clippers for their Minnesota pick and Jordan and blow it up unless they can make a bigtime move for an elite defender who can guard both the 4 and 5.
Curious...I need a guideline. Who would be considered the best in the league for this request?

Caron is a 20 pt a game scorer with great heart...team player.

Wait.....he didn't sign with the spurs.

He sucked anyway and was injury prone and I hate him.

The Lakers were never the same after they traded him in '05.

And without him last year in the playoffs, the Mavs couldn't match their success of the year before.

To be fair, it's always dangerous to sign a player to a big deal coming right off a season ending injury - without anytime to see if they still have the goods. Might be a blessing in disguise.

Who is the target now then? AK47?

I'd love to land someone like Chandler or Varejao; both pipe dreams though.

Eh, I think that's good news for the Spurs. That's too much money for an iffy knee.
Enjoy going from the Penthouse to the outhouse, Caron.

Speaking of Butler's knee, he has suffered now suffered torn patellar tendons in both knees in his basketball career. I can't imagine there's another NBA player in history that was able to return to action who can claim that.

extra 3million/year to be fair to him.
Clippers initial offer was 7M a year, and he got them up to 8M a year by playing them with words. That's the million.

    Disgustingly, probably JHo.

Wouldn't shock me to see the Rich Russkie in NJ go after AK now that he came up short on Butler.

Ya, not to sad over this lack of signing and agree that a player like Evans or Moon for the min. may be on the way...
Typical the Spurs end up with their 4th or 5th option.

LOL at anyone who thinks the Clippers won't find a way to screw it up. They're so consistently poorly managed that I have to suspect they're not really trying to be a team, they're the basketball equivalent of the Marlins - a firesale for other teams.

So will the spurs still waive RJ if he has no replacement? Or is that a done deal. Of course now you have the same problem the Lakers have... a layer who knows he was about to be dumped/traded.

    The skinny
The Clippers posted a mark of 29-53 during the 2009-10 campaign, missing the playoffs for the fourth consecutive year. Since Donald Sterling bought the team in 1981 the Clippers have made the playoffs just four times, the worst record in the NBA over that span. The Clippers have one of the lowest payrolls in the league year-in, year-out, but still manage to get less bank for the buck than most teams. During each of the past four seasons the Clippers had a wins-to-player-costs ratio below 100, meaning the franchise generated less victories per dollar spent than the average NBA team. But the Clippers are also one of the NBA's most profitable teams because they pay very little rent at the Staples Center, consistently draw over 16,000 fans per game and have a decent local television deal with FSN Prime Ticket, despite their horrific performance on the hardwood.
