Don't sleep on my Suns. Chemistry and subtle improvements. I think they'll squeak into the playoffs as a 7 or 8 seed. Rank these chumps like the Blazers or Rockets or Nuggets above us if you dare.
don't rate clippers at all tbh. they must win something next season (which ain't likely to happen) to inveigle CP3 to resign with them, griffin missed out his entire rookie season there's no guarantee he won't turn out to be another greg oden. 2nd round will be the ceiling for this team imo (even if griffin/paul both stay healthy) and when CP decides to walk come the end of their season, they are ed
If we're talking regular season, it's pretty obvious the Spurs will be in the top 3, they shat on the WC standings last season and they are fully capable of doing the same run and gun bull which will ultimately get us nowhere. But if we're talking about overall best teams in the west, my list would be:
1. Thunder
2. Mavericks
3. Grizzlies
4. Lakers
5. Spurs
6. Clippers?
7. Blazers
8. Nuggets

4) Lake Show
5) Grizz
6) Clip Show
7) Blazers

How did Spurs go from #1 last season to #8? Mavs have way too many key players well beyond age 30 and with the loss of Chandler, Butler and Barea they had lost quite a bit of their iden y. Clippers have tons of talent but they have never had a winning atmosphere. Dont know if that can be changed around in one year.
This is the weakest Western conference that I can remember, tbh..
None of the top teams are powerhouses like the 2009 or 2010 Lakers, there isn't an elite tier like the Suns/Spurs/Mavs from 2005 to 2007, and there aren't any teams of the 3-peat Lakers caliber IMO..
There is no clear favorite, no dominant teams(especially with the Mavs losing Chandler)..
It should make for some good compe ion, though..
The Spurs will be better, as long as Popovich chooses Splitter over Bonner..there should be a slight improvement, although their record will be worse, due to the scheduling..
Lakers will be worse IMO..Gasol will bounce back, Bynum will improve, but they lost Odom, their coach sucks, and they still haven't addressed their lack of bench and spacing(adding Kapono helps, but he's a huge liability, in every other aspect)..
Grizzlies is a toss-up..will Rudy Gay learn to play team basketball?..did Randolph let himself go during the extended off-season?..will Battier's leadership be missed?..
Thunder will be a perennial 3-4 seed unless they get a good closer, Durant usually settles for 30 ft jumpshots or letting Westbrook overdribble in the clutch. As far as the Spurs go, nlggas le window may be shut but as long as the big 3 are there theyll be at the top in the standings.
1.Spurs
2.Lakers
3.Mavs
4.Thunder
5.Clippers
6.Grizzlies
7.Nuggets
8.Blazers
No idea tbh. Lockout shortened season/long off season/sudden team and player changes put everything up in the air for me.
I'd probably rank the Thunder first and play by ear from there.
