I've been building my own computers since 95, and am perfectly happy with my non-jailbroken iPhone. I would say you are completely incorrect. I do not feel limited in any way whatsoever.
so when it comes to phones you like these kind of gardens. I respect that but I doubt many "nerds" agree

Vista works as advertised after the few service packs. It is also more intuitive and less restrictive than Itunes. But that's as far as we can go comparing since one is an OS that pretty much stays out of your way and the other and App that tries to take over your digital media life.
tbh Vista will pop up a window by default anytime any program tries to start, or if the program tries to access any information outside of its folder. Vista's User Account Control by default is incredibly restrictive. It worked fine after you monkey around with it a bit, but that can be said of any program, iTunes included.

again, Itunes is IMO ever since they save the media in their cryptic databases and don't allow you to actually find the song/movie that you purchased on your own computer. The fact that they also don't allow you to pair your computer to multiple devices from the getgo is a slap in the face of the user. They also try to enslave you to use their ty players to play such media and even do checks to make sure you are the owner of the media.

again, Itunes is the Heinrich Himmler of the digital media world

Alright, ringtone solution, off the top of my head. Take any song you like. Highlight it, right click and select "Create AAC Version". Go to the copy and figure out which 40 seconds you want to use and note the start and stop times. Right click on the copy and select "Get Info". Go to "Options" and click and edit the start and stop times to the times you noted on the sample you want and click ok. Play the copy to make sure it only plays the clip you want, then click and drag the music clip out of iTunes and onto your desktop. Right click on the file and click "Rename". Change the file extension to "m4r". Delete the song copy in iTunes. Drag and drop the new m4r file back into iTunes and it will automatically be added to the "Tones" playlist. Sync your phone and there you go, a new ringtone.

That took me MUCH, MUCH longer to type than it does to actually do it. I created a text tone of Arnold in Predator yelling, "Get to the choppa!!!!" by downloading the clip off of YouTube and doing this as well as other songs and clips. It's extremely easy.

you could also just download iringer.exe and import any audio file, process and clip it, and automatically export it to itunes.

haha yeah, I'm way behind the current but I had a Droid when it very first came out... loved that thing, even had a great camera and a flash..

then I switched to my mom's plan on the cheap and got an Iphone 3GS, I was astounded how ty and boxed in it is compared to my droid... I still LMAO at having only 1 damn button that sends you to home on the whole front of the phone.. no options, no return 1 page, etc plus all the apple itunes configuring bull .. lol really sucks compared to the droid, which was easy as to use and just a way better phone all the way around.. had an actual keyboard too, something I prefer..

I have had the same music folder since about 98 on various computers, and all I had to do was make it the default media folder in the iTunes preferences. Everything I download from iTunes or other sources has always been in that folder, where it has always been. iTunes has never run a check to see if I am the owner of anything, and 95% of my content is from sources other than iTunes, including m4v's that have been converted from MKVs. The only issue I ever had with iTunes is forgetting to uncheck the "Keep iTunes Media Folder organized" - it threw all the soundtracks and compilations into various folders, but that was my own fault and easily fixed. I think you have a serious user error problem tbh.

Never had that problem. Have my iPod attached to 5 computers and my phone attached to 2. All my songs can be shared and downloaded between the 2 computers I have and my phone. Anything I download off of iTunes now appears on my phone automatically.

I gave a way to do it without downloading any 3rd party apps as the op complained about how iTunes doesn't let you add songs as tones.

here you go, Itunes forces you to have only 1 music folder

what about paring your itunes to multiple phones. what about sharing your music on your phone on another pc/phone easily?

    restrictions, restrictions.

That's not what you said. You said iPhones are for dimwitted morons who don't know about technology. I provided myself as an example proving otherwise. I think John Carmack knows more about tech than most people alive, and he loves his iPhone too.
I didn't say its ONLY for them, but rather I said its PERFECT for them.

It's like saying beans and rice are a perfect compliment for each other in a meal. It doesn't mean that you can ONLY have beans and rice together, and that if you have them any other way, it sucks.

It's okay if you are an apple fanboy, thats the only explanation for you to be so incredibly defensive.

And for whatever its worth, I like Apple products, and like iPhones. I say in general, if you like toying with technology a lot, Android suits your needs better, whereas if you want a simple yet elequent phone that has useful apps, iPhone suits your needs just fine.

My phone is connected to 2 different computers. It's not that hard. And 1 folder thing is divided into multiple folders when you click on it. It's about organization. And iTunes can be paired with multiple phones as long as the phone has authorized the computer and you log in with your iTunes account. Again, simple solutions. You're grasping at straws now.

We all know you hate Apple because of a stupid mistake you made so you're not going to find anything you like.

I have mine set up with an iPhone and an iPod touch my daughter has, and we also used the same computer for my ex's iPhone and iPod when she lived here, as well as a roomate who had an iPhone that moved out last year. It's not difficult at all - we just have separate playlists for each device, and further playlists under that if they are needed. My one Music folder has 6,873 subfolders for each artist/album but it is all in one place on the drive for organization and easy backup.

You also said a technology nerd would be massively disappointed with a stock iPhone. He's a technology nerd who likes his stock phone. You spoke in an absolute there and he provided an exception. It happens. Don't speak in absolutes next time.

    I said this:

iphones are perfect for dimwitted morons who don't know about technology. If you are a bit of a technology nerd though, then unless you jailbreak it, you will be massively disappointed, especially if you previously have used a good android device.

iPhones are nice phones, no doubt. But there is absolutely nothing about the iPhone that I see any reason to take over an SGII, unless you just want a more simple (but limited) device.
If you would shut the up and consider the context, you would see I was talking to the ORIGINAL POSTER, who clearly has had a good android phone in the past, and appears to be a bit of a technology nerd considering the fact that he has issues with the restrictiveness of an iPhone. Everything I said directed to him in every way, shape, and form. In no way was I talking about leemajors, or yourself, or anyone else. I was talking to HIM.

I quoted you word for word - what you said was belittling to any technically inclined person who has an iPhone. That was what I had a problem with. I'm glad you like your Skyrocket/Android - I thought you did a much better job of expressing your wants/needs in your thread about your decision than the OP did here.

Except you used an absolute in response to the OP. That's my problem. You should have said that techno nerds probably won't like the iPhone. You said they would be massively disappointed (meaning ALL).

After he further explainined himself (since he did a piss poor job in the first post) telling him how much better Android is is pretty useless since his company "stuck" him with the 4s. So now he wants solutions since he's too lazy to look on his own.

He has to reprogram himself like a user switching from Windows to OSX, although with Windows 7 it's not too hard anymore.

"They make you feel good, Apple products. The little touches: the rounded corners, the strokeable screens, the satisfying clunk as you fold the Macbook shut – it's serene. Untroubled. Like being on Valium.

Until, that is, you try to do something Apple doesn't want you to do. At which point you realise your shiny chum isn't on your side. It doesn't even understand sides. Only Apple: always Apple."

I'm not the butthurt one here. You spoke something, got nailed on it and tried to change the story. In PR you never speak in absolutes because it doesn't give you an out. You tried to get out but you couldn't and the tried to change the angle. Don't be mad because you properly got nailed on it. It happens. I got nailed on Twitter on Monday night (even got retweeted and others responded) for a mistake so I owned up to it and moved on.

A general rule in life is to never speak in absolutes because life isn't math. It will make things a whole lot easier if you learn phrases such as "I think," "I believe this to be true," or even "I'm not completely sure but,".

That way if you make a mistake, you don't have to spend a lot of time defending yourself and can use the opportunity to learn from your mistake and be better for it.
