Pop sure looked a heck of a lot better when Tim was on his prime...
What year was your last level of education Jethro? Please tell me it was 5th grade, I would understand and actually feel sorry for your dumbass. Quote from Carlisle, "(Gary) Neal isn’t a point guard, but he was in there making point guard-type plays and hitting shots." Do you know what the word isn't means?
Pop sure looked a heck of a lot better when Tim was on his prime...
I don't believe any coach could do a better job with this lineup. Right now we have two guys on the court who are playing relatively close to All Star level. The rest of the guys are bench/role players. Pop is doing a great job considering the injuries. I believe he is the best coach in the league with Phil Jackson gone.
Pop has one coaching weakness that has been his Achilles heel for a long time and that is in regards to player management. He has been great at managing the minutes of his superstars, but he has failed the past few years by keeping talented players that could help us glued to the bench. Tiago Splitter is the obvious example here.
One only has to look back to last year and the extended minutes Bonner and Blair saw together to see Pop's weakness first hand. That front court got murdered nearly every time they played together. This year Blair has continued to flounder and yet Pop refuses to even give Malcolm Thomas a chance even though his college teammate (Leonard) has garnered major minutes with the team.
On Xs and Os, Pop is a genius. He is great at getting the most out of his players and getting them to play the game the right way. I honestly would not trade him for any other coach currently in the league. I will continue to question some of his subs utions, but the man has brought us four les so I won't complain to much.
Its funny how that works. Great players make great coaches.
Tbh there are 29 other coaches in the league who would not have wasted a skillful 7 footers rookie year riding the pine behind a 6'5 center, a 37 year old PF and a 3 point chucking pseudo 'power' forward.
Thanks for pointing out that Carlisle threw in a subtle jab on top of the deceptive comments afterward. Even more clever than i first thought. Subtly hinting of Pop's bufoonery.
I'm sure many (like you for instance) will not understand the subtle jabs here and instead actually believe he was being sincere. And I will brace for more of your sickening Pop loving instead.
Lol, subtle jabs. Your a ing rocket scientist, the skys the limit for you Jethro.![]()
Don Nelson once said that he would run 4 down every play if he had Tim Duncan.
Yes, subtle jabs. Why else would he bother to say "Gary Neal is not a point guard" Why schtikk, why.. please explain to us.
Of course he's placating Pop's ego and filling his head with air (not that Pop needs more of either, he's already in the stratosphere).
Explain to us? You mean you? Gary Neal is a shooting guard? Still following me? Any word I type to difficult to read? Would you like me to give you a link on his bio, maybe a link of the Spur's roster?
So now Carlisle is dissing Pop?
lol
I see neither one of you clowns answered the question I posed.
Because Gary Neal is not a point guard. And he was making point guard-type plays. Rick thought that was noteworthy.
my list:
end of list!
While the NFL is a QB+Coaches league, the NBA is a players league. Could Pop play Splitter more? Probably, but who are we, that we can judge on it, when Pop is seeing him every day, while we don't?
It's not like we are not in the playoff race or something.
Chill!
GARY NEAL IS A SHOOTING GUARD. Does all caps help?
"noteworthy"
Pop thought he might be a viable backup point guard this past summer. I think Rick might be aware of that, too. I suppose it's possible Rick C didn't and just added it for no real reason, other than it was "noteworthy".
LMAO right
Why the would Rick be aware of that?
Do you think he reads SpursTalk? He's got his own team to coach, you know.
No really, do you know he's got stuff to do?
Good work, schtikk! You're finally learning what positions the spurs players play! Next week the lesson will be what shooting guards do!
So you agree with what Rick Carlisle said.
OK.
You were actually being serious about that?
Uh, because it's his job to understand what is going on esp on a interstate rival team and doesn't need spurstalk. LMAO.
I'm also betting Rick C understands a uva lot more about basketball than Pop.
You have no idea.
No, seriously -- how do you think he knew about what Pop was thinking about Neal this summer?
Be specific.
So you respect his high opinion of Pop then.I'm also betting Rick C understands a uva lot more about basketball than Pop.
OK.
I thought he was trolling me, tbh![]()
