It's just coincidence Solid D
A lot of teams play like garbage in first 6 weeks (Spurs 2011!), then progress. Impossible to say how much is due to usual progress or how much is due to personnel changes.
but this holds true for the other teams as well ... numbers can be misleading, but they do not lie ...
Barca looks tired. Messi actually lost his legs during that game imo.
Fear Chelsea? Fear Drogba?
Richard Jefferson's last 2 playoff series with SA:
vs. Phoenix:
35 MPG, 10 PPG (.42 FG%)
vs. Grizzlies:
30 MPG, 7 PPG (.39 FG%)
Spurs needed more than that from a primarily offensive player (with more athleticism than 90% of the team at the time).
Jefferson just didn't show up if he wasn't making baskets or highly involved, which is difficult with a Big 3.
At least Kawhi Leonard is active all over the court, and doesn't take a minute off. Plus, Jackson and Diaw off the bench is solid.
What about defensive stats, such as Opp. FG% and 3FG%? Anyone have those numbers?
Opponent 3FG% before the RJ trade - 35.75%;
Opponent 3FG% after the RJ trade - 34.73%;
Opponent FG% before the RJ trade - 45.26%,
Opponent FG% after the RJ trade - 44.6%,
Team FG% before RJ trade - 46.3%;
Team FG% after RJ trade - 50.4%;
Team 3FG% before RJ trade - 39.5%
Team 3FG% after RJ trade - 39.7%
Anyway you slice /dice it.. the team has been better off.
...and thus, the point of this thread. We suspected it, but I decided to do the research to confirm our su ions.
wow.
wow.
Quality stuff
All the numbers at the time pointed to the Spurs improving simply by getting rid of RJ. Factor in the additions of Jackson and Diaw and statistically it's not too surprising that the Spurs would be much better off ... but watching it in action has been awesome.

Another proof this trade was the trade of a decade for the Spurs.
Young Kawhi getting a lot of minutes, motivated Jax on bench... What else could you wish for?
Oh, yeah:

Highly underrated thread. Thanks for bringing the goods Solid D and Spursfanfromafar.![]()

Clearly Spurs are missing RJ and will miss his 6.5PPG from last playoffs even more when this post season rolls around.

Thanks
The under 45% Opponent FG is encouraging. Ideally it'd be lower, but that's decent defense.
i liked RJ when he was with the spurs
i guess i was blinded by something, damn. its like dating the ugly girl and not knowing until she leaves
Yeah!
where among the league do we rank in points in the paint? and where did we when jeff was here this season?
I hope people understand how impressive that actually is.
