It got better for NY as realGM is reporting the trade as done as follows.

Richardson, 2007 first rounder (protected) for Thomas

    http://realgm.com/src_fromtherafters...r_kurt_thomas/

I'm not sure what to make of the "protection" as it sounds like the Suns keep it if it's outside the lottory and New York gets it if it is lottory?!?! Which makes absolutely no sense to me.

It makes no sense to Suns fans, because typically picks are lottory protected, not non-lottory protected like this one seems to be.

I'd much rather give them a high-20's pick in 2007 then the first lottory pick available.

thats great for them. but yea, they need a solid bench cuz in the 2nd round, when joe johnson got hurt against the mavericks, jimmy johnson was about the only guy who could take his place. the rest of the suns starters were playing 40 minutes or more. and i saw nash play in dallas for years and i know he gets tired easily and starts playing sloppy and turning the ball over.

This is a great trade for the Suns. It gets an enforcer type for Amare allowing Marion to move back to SF and more importantly it allows them to resign Joe Johnson who will be a star next year. Richardson stunk in the playoffs.

    Update on trade:

The New York Knicks have agreed to trade Kurt Thomas to the Phoenix Suns for Quentin Richardson, but the deal is on hold over the weekend.

The Knicks are awaiting insurance papers on Richardson, the New York Times reported. Richardson injured his back while playing for the Los Angeles Clippers, which reportedly was one reason they let him leave as a free agent.

Without the paperwork, the deal is unlikely to happen, the Times reported. If the trade is completed, the Knicks would also get a conditional first-round pick.

Thomas averaged 10.4 rebounds and 11.5 points in 37.5 minutes over 80 games.

Richardson averaged 14.9 points and 6.1 rebounds in 35.9 minutes over 78 games.

Who is Payton kidding? He'll himself out to whoever pays him the most.
