2012 Spurs better than the 1996 Bulls

Yeah, some people really don't know how to handle praise.

I prefer the Thunder to get more attention than the Spurs so like that the Spurs can play with a chip on their shoulder and stay under the radar

    Great article, tbh.

But it makes me squeamish to read such high Spurs praise after only two rounds of basketball . . .
Exactly. As much fun as it is to read, it scares the crap out of me.
yeah, I don't like articles like that one bit. until it's actually accomplished

If there was ever a year in which I actually believed the Spurs are not paying an ounce of attention to articles (thus negating the unappreciated/underdog/chip on shoulder/radar issue), it is this year.

I don't think they give a what anyone is saying, they are laser-focused on their game, as they should be.

Meanwhile, I'm going to enjoy the Spurs getting the credit they are due for once. I agree it's mostly about TPTB realizing they may be in trouble if they don't start playing them up some, but it's nice to read these articles.

And MarcusBryant is spot on when he points out that they will or not without regard to what people say about them. May as well enjoy it whilst we can.

Different fans handle this kind of success in different ways. Some get y and love it all in the moment. Some fans, like timvp and tesseractive, get squeamish, nervous, and scared. Count me among the nervous group.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to be trash talking and be on a euphoric high and absolutely living this up, and part of me is. I'm loving the way this team is playing, and I'm watching the games in awe and respect and giddy fandom.

The nervous part is the part that knows it's all too easy for something to go wrong, that something could derail this team. The nervous part is the part that has seen how successful flying under the radar can be, so why would we want the hype now?

And above all, the nervous part is the part that REALLY wants this championship for this team. Yes, we Spurs fans are spoiled, and should be thanking our lucky stars that we have 1 championship, much less 4. But I really want this 2012 championship for this team. This team that has come together and played basketball the right way and turned back the clock.

It's like one of those cliche sports movies where the team of outcasts and has beens makes a run at the championship, and by the end of the movie you want to see them win it all. In those movies, the team usually wins, but once in a blue moon they don't. It's that once in a blue moon that makes us nervous. So yes, I'll enjoy every minute of this playoff run, but the nerves sure as heck aren't going to disappear until after the final buzzer of the final game.

Yeap, three months ago he was "Man, I hate seeing Duncan like this," who knows what he ll say a few weeks from now. Such an anti-spur mentality.

Thunder start their first series on the road. Perhaps a minor point since they've won on the road in this playoffs, but for a young team this might matter. As much as we make of the Spurs not losing yet, what happens to a young team that finds itself down in a series?

The Spurs also focus on transition D, don't foul often, and run an offense that is heavy on assisted scoring. Rebound decently as well. As much as nervous Spurs fans think the team hasn't been tested, I think Spurs fans (other than those predicting no losses the rest of the way) are overlooking the fact that the Thunder haven't faced a team like this in the playoffs. Not to mention that the Mavs were not a strong defending champion and the Lakers were taken to seven games by the Nuggets. The Spurs rolled the Lakers the last two times they faced them.

Yes, this will be the Spurs' toughest test yet, but the Spurs have beaten teams like the Thunder before, and that's still Scotty Brooks sitting on the other bench.

I think they've been the best team in the NBA for the last month and a half. But they've definitely had the easiest playoff opponents out of all the remaining playoff teams.
    .
Without a doubt, but its okay because they earned that right to play the easiest teams by finishing the the season on a tear.

I think the 24pt deficit and close game in game 4 were perfect set ups for the WCF.

This is coming from a guy who said that if the 2012 Spurs go 16-0, then 2012 Spurs > 1996 Bulls.

People are nervous because it's difficult to trust what our eyes see. We see the same core that has just not had it in recent years. We see the newest youngest talented group waiting for the Spurs after they just wasted two big names.

I think it's going to come down to defense. Both the Spurs and Thunder can score. I think the Spurs have the edge defensively and in the amount of easy baskets. They basically shutdown the Clippers defensively for over 5 minutes in game 3. I think that's just scratching the surface of what this team can do defensively.

me and everything I'm about to jinx the spurs with, I want that 16-0 record this year, the league has never been more ripe for it than it is right now, and it would be the end of any need to repeat. It would solidify the legacy on everything pop and Duncan have done for this team. I have been rooting for it ever since the brackets were announced. But i know they just have to lose sometime, and it will probably be game 1 against the thunder, but , i want that record.

If the level of compe ion is sub-par (I don't agree. WC bottom feeders = EC middle to top seeds), the Spurs have done exactly what they needed to do: jump on them, give them no life, and dispose of them in the minimum number of games.

    8-0

    Average score: 102.5 => 88.8

I'm going to pick Spurs in six, but it wouldn't shock me to see them end OKC in five.

Agree, the Spurs have played better defense than OKC. It's not like they just outscored the Jazz and Clippers.

I don't understand why so many of you guys are scared of OKC thinking they will take any of spurs home games there too good to let that happen. The mavericks and lakers are a few steps down in terms of the spurs and the thunder struggled just to beat those teams in some games and they are lucky just to still be playing they could easiley have been gone by know if the mavericks and lakers didn't choke away their chances. Spurs in 5 or 4 games people.
