My mom used to call it "Monkey Wards". At the time, I didn't think much about it. Now I wonder if it was because maybe that's how I said it when I was little.

Edit: After a Google search, I see that it was commonly called that.

I haven't been back to SA in a while but last time I was there we went to some store over by the Riverwalk. Downstairs was filled with old records. The upstairs has tons of old toys and nostalgia. Is that place still around? Can't remember the name. Seems like it was near a Ripley's Believe it or Not that had a roller coaster inside.

The Handy Andy at Wonderland Mall (now called crossroads) had a reading section for kids so mothers could just leave the kids there while they shopped...they had books, comic books, etc....My mom accidentally left me there one time...she didn't even miss me till she called everyone to the table for dinner a couple of hours later and they couldn't find me...freaked out and finally remembered I had gone to the store with her...LOL...I was still reading.

Speaking of Handy Andy, remember they had grocery pick-up system? As I vaguely recall, at checkout your groceries where put into some some kind of trolley or box. You got a number that corresponded to the number on the box. You then drove your car to a pick up spot and claimed your groceries with the number. I think you can see the grocery pick up area in the above photo.

I also recall that the Handy Andy in Central Park Mall was the first to open a "gourmet" area featuring imported foods and a french bread bakery.

I remember my mom buying me a top from Solo Serve that had 3 different types of buttons on it.

    That's Solo Serve in a nuts .

You could buy Polos and Izods for about 1/4 of the retail price, but you might get a mismatched color on the collar, different length sleeves or half the horse or alligator might be missing.
