To Nash's credit, how is he any different than Dirk? Nash's Suns teams were constantly in the playoffs and whether or not you believed their style could win - they were a threat most every year. It wasn't until very recently that the Suns started sucking.
Dirk stayed put and finally got a group of guys together that clicked and it was an unconventional championship team. Would Dirk have ever left? Before Tyson was there, Dirk signed a new contract with the thinking they weren't anywhere close to a true contender too.
That doesn't make any sense.
She did and you know it....it goes to the very heart of her troll game![]()
Nash realises the playoffs pay compared to the regular season. Most players need the playoffs to build their regular season contract value, but Nash is the fun and classy white guy that will get people in seats to watch ty teams. No reason for Nash to bust ass for a ty 1/15th of his team's playoff pot when he can be paid like a franchise guy for the regular season and start his vacation in April instead of June. Nash is the embodiment of the "just cut the check" at ude that NBA fans claim to hate.
But he's the loveable scruffy white underdog! Give him 2 MVPs!
Dont agree entirely with that. A lot of time its cir stance, like Dirk in Dallas. Then Dirk got his ring and came back out of shape and didn't care.
Nash plays hard when he plays - he doesn't show up out of shape and flat out not compete. That's my definition of just cashing the check -it's getting paid and then seeing a massive drop off in effort and production.
I'll give Dirk the benefit of the doubt for being a little out of shape in a season that looked like it probably wasn't going to get played. It's not like he came back a fat pig like Odom.
The Suns started sucking once they let Amare leave.....a decision Nash endorsed. It's also obvious Nash isn't bothered in the slightest by the fact the Suns have sucked for 2 years now.
Also, no one said anything about Dirk or implied he has a "win above all else" mentality.
Nash plays hard on one end of the court. Letting Steve Blake drop 20 points and 10 assists 2 different times, something Blake hasn't done against anyone not named Steve Nash, isn't playing hard.
No - but it's about perception. I was drawing a parallel.
Here's to Steve Nash:

You don't win MVPs (deserved or not) by not playing hard. He sucks at defense. Could he put more effort there? Sure, doesn't mean he would be good at it and that wouldn't maximize his teams chances to win.
Like the Spurs this year. They could have placed more emphasis on defense, but it would have been to the detriment of their overall team because they lacked the talent to truly compete there.
I don't disagree a lot with your overall premise, but I do disagree that he doesn't play hard or that he "just cashed pay checks". I think that is a little over board.
When Nash won his MVPs, he actually tried on defense. His effort level on defense is noticeably worse now than it was in 2005 or 2006. The fact Nash won 2 MVPs over 6 years ago doesn't mean jack now. The MVPs are completely irrelevant.
You don't need to be good at defense to hold Steve Blake below 20 points and 10 assists. The fact he's let Steve Blake do that twice proves his bad defense goes far beyond his limited physical abilities given Steve Blake is just as undersized and unathletic as he is.
Talent has nothing to do with Steve Nash's habit of drifting away from his man and leaving him wide open. That habit is a selfish desire of Nash to hopefully force a turnover and play free safety because it's whats fun to him.
K I'll agree with you "just cashed pay checks." If Nash was "just cashing paychecks" the Suns wouldn't have sniffed a .500 record.
dirk came out of shape kowing cuban was planning on tanking the year
I give Dirk a pass on that too. *Cuban screwed him over. Point was, do people have the same beef with Dirk, even though he's a champion now? He drifted on defense for many years. He signed a contract with a team to stay "loyal" even though their le hopes looked bleak.
It was a different player, but was wondering that if people think the same of Dirk or not just because he finally did end up with a ring by making similar decisions to Nash.
*as it appears now - have to see how the FA moves/trades work out before we come to that conclusion.
