It's still the words of one man, and I did searches. The author of the article cited has no integrity. He lied about the 20 years. How much more of it did he make up? The guy that worked at these places claimed a 15 year period. Not 20. It had to do with the manual systems. The period was also 1962 to 1977.

If such a thing was true, then this was an extra security measure not deemed to be needed. There would have been other security in place. Since this is before my time in the theater, it is possible such a [probable] redundant systems way effectively "jumpered out" that way. I'm very certain that even in the early days, safeguarding from rouge usage was maximized.

“Tactical” nuclear weapons
This is an older term which is no longer useful in describing the explosive size of nuclear weapons (many modern versions of these weapons can have large yields). “Tactical” now infers that the weapon is used for limited, or “theater” military operations, but not long-range intercontinental missions. Thus, the term “non-strategic weapon” is more appropriate.
